Yeah, we had a 7 win season last year. But, take a minute and look back at the records those 7 teams had.
6 of the 7 ended the season with losing records. Had that team gotten into the playoffs, they would have been killed in the first round. That my friend is the sorry state of Catamount football. It hasn't changed in the last 40 years and it won't change in the next 40 years.
If you want championship calabar football, don't look to Western Carolina, take up cheering for one of the power 5 schools, like most other WCU graduates. If you want to support Western Carolina, do it, just don't expect the folks in the white building to care one way or the other, and don't expect wins, or championships, or playoffs. That is the sorry state of football at Western Carolina.

Seven wins is okay but it's only two games over .500 and when those wins are against teams with losing records, that is pretty mediocre results in my opinion as well.

False. This is the mediocrity mentality I speak of. Because we achieve ‘milestone X’ we’re allowed a freebie game/stretch/season? No. I'm not sure how you managed to get that I am throwing the team a freebie... I'm just as frustrated as you are about the performance. However a 7 win season is a damn good season and 7 wins isn't mediocre. Damn good season? When 7 wins doesn’t make playoffs, doesn’t win conferences, and doesn’t include key wins...

This is the mindset that pisses me off. We need to strive to be the best not just middle of the pack. If you strive to be ok then you will never make the playoffs or win a championship I'm not sure how you managed to get that I am throwing the team a freebie... I'm just as frustrated as you are about the performance. However a 7 win season is a damn good season and 7 wins isn't mediocre. Damn good season? When 7 wins doesn’t make playoffs, doesn’t win conferences, and doesn’t include key wins... 6 teams made the playoffs last season with 7 or less wins. We missed making the playoffs because our team didn't show at the end of the season. We took Wofford into overtime although we lost. Yes the team blew it at the end by not closing out the season but you guys are acting as if we went 2-11 last year... And once again since some of you keep bringing it up, I am not okay with the team being mediocre. However we were 2 points away from a win at Mercer, and had a close overtime loss at Wofford. If any of that was different we would have gone to the playoffs. Hell if we didn't schedule 2 FBS teams and scheduled a FCS team we could have gone. Either way a defense that is giving up 700 yards is pathetic. You could put the band out there and get the same results for cheaper...

The thing you forget, we are not talking about the "Catamount horseshoe playing team", we are talking about football. Close does not count in football, it does not matter if we were 2 points away from a win at Mercer, and had a close overtime loss to Wofford. WE LOST BOTH GAMES. What counts, is the final score. Anyway, last season has NO bearing on this season, a season that looks to be 3-8 overall. We are looking at two losing seasons out of the last three. As far as two FBS teams, if we didn't play those two game, the football team (and other athletics) would be even worse, those games are the financial lifeblood for athletics at WCU, without them, we are Presbyterian, which the route folks in the white building would love to see the football program go.

This is be the same group of people to support Proser with excuses of “it’s his first season” and “this officially isn’t his team, his recruits are next year.” Don’t get me wrong, want him to succeed but let the record show...I hope he can prove me wrong.
Not asking for the program to become the next Alabama but to compete week to week, season to season. I think we have some decent talent on the team, but the staff clearly isn’t providing the correct/enough instruction to allow for it to show week to week. I’m done living on the “well we hired from App and look where App is now so we’re getting there” or “we beat a ranked Samford team in 2017.”
Like the thread is labeled...”excuses.”

Exactly excuses is what half this board is. I just want it called like it is, bad coaching , bad adjustments and bad playing. Don't sugar coat bad product because then it is accepted

Don't sugar coat bad product because then it is accepted If we win next season, you will be back on the bandwagon again. What is your solution besides firing everyone in the athletic department and starting over again. Maybe that is the only idea you have, but that will not work so we need to work with what we have. A woefully underfunded athletic department because of poor leadership in the Robinson building and BOT, and a bunch of players/kids and coaches doing their absolute best to make this all work with the resources they have. Coach Speir is a good man and a good coach and the best fit possible for Western. All you do is point out that we have lost 2 games and as you put it our defense sucks. I think we are young on defense and we will improve. If you want to complain, complain to the sorry BOT and sorry leadership in the Robinson building. Put your anger where it belongs.

So even you see this season a wash now? It’s not a bandwagon but Catamounts fans without the rose-colored glasses that they give away every year at Valley Ballyhoo. We all root for the same team but recognize the reality and expect better. Everyone deserves a chance but not 10 more chances. I’m looking a Randy Eaton departure, especially if the Proser hire doesn’t work out.
