I've held back from commenting to gain a little insight from others and cool down a bit. I usually try to be positive and glass half full on the results, but there's nothing positive I can say about the game against Samford. We totally self destructed. No way to sugar coat this loss. I'm most disappointed in the very fact that we didn't even compete with these guys. Losses are easier to absorb when I see that our team played it close and stayed in it, but that simply did not happen.

I'm most disappointed in the very fact that we didn't even compete with these guys. Losses are easier to absorb when I see that our team played it close and stayed in it, but that simply did not happen. Same here... I don't know what to think. Having been at the game yesterday, it was like a bad roller coaster. By half time, we (I) really thought we could keep it close and possibly get back in there. But the defense blew apart again early in the 3rd quarter. It may have been the 2nd worst game I've ever been at (the worst being the blowout in Boone). The Samford offense had 730 yards, over 90 offensive plays, and averaged 7 1/2 yards per play. Yet - we had almost the same about of TOP. I don't know how we fix our issues. I think the offense will be effective in some, if not most of our remaining games. BUT - defense seems totally inept. Missed tackles, no pressure on the QB, wide open receivers. Samford's use of the super hurry up offense had us scrambling and out of place constantly. I don't know that we can fix this overnight. I'd say at this point it's possible we don't win another game. I DO think we'll win one or two more games - but again - we need a BETTER, deeper defense. That is likely a year away - but will require experience that only the rest of this season can provide.

False. This is the mediocrity mentality I speak of. Because we achieve ‘milestone X’ we’re allowed a freebie game/stretch/season? No. I'm not sure how you managed to get that I am throwing the team a freebie... I'm just as frustrated as you are about the performance. However a 7 win season is a damn good season and 7 wins isn't mediocre. Bonsai I hate to do this too you but 7 wins no where close to a damn good season. I understand where you could think that as you are probably used to thinking about the 3 and 4 win seasons being great after being horrible for so long. I don't understand how you feel that it isn't mediocre as we have gotten absolutely no where with our 7 wins and we will be lucky to even get 5 this year. A "damn good season" would be at a minimum to make the playoffs, and not finish with 4 losses of teams with less talent. For years even under coach Wagner Western was given high rankings of recruiting classes and we got nothing from them. The rankings haven't been there under Coach Speir and he believes that he has brought the program back from the dead as he stated on twitter at the beginning of the year, despite the fact that he still has not won more games than lost since he has been the head coach. Something has to be done to the whole athletics department as they represent all fans and alumni we look like a pile of "Censored Word" with nothing close to a damn good season ever. Our best claim to fame is we won runner up over 30 years ago.

Does anyone think Wiley will see the same fate as Landry did? What game was Landry removed ?

Does anyone think Wiley will see the same fate as Landry did? What game was Landry removed ? Better yet, give him the Kiffin bus departure treatment. But it was actually after the Chattanooga at Western game.

It always makes you feel good when a longtime FCS beat writer says your defense could be the worst in Southern Conference history. Makes you all warm on the inside.
