72 didn’t know the kid. My son knew him and that’s all I’m going to say on his view of the kid. Last week was the first time I noticed him on the sidelines. Jim I’ve been out on business all week and haven’t talked with my son. He will call me this evening.

After listening to Coach Speir’s assessment of the Samford Game today, he is the greatest BSer that I have ever listen to. Once again, he said his coaches did a terrible job preparing the Cats for Samford. How many times are the Cats’ Fans going to accept this excuse. Fans need to keep in mind that UTC’s Coach was a D2 coach 2 years ago.

At least he admitted how embarrassing the game was and the fact he can not blame the fans for also being embarrassed by the game

Not sure what you are looking for

My thought is ok he and his staff took the blame but is anything going to change this year or going forward? Probably not. Getting 66 points hung on you is not just a bad game and not playing well. It means the D is not good at all. Lets just say Samford was a bad game. How do you explain the week prior against furman? Yes we about came back but thanks to our D we were down 21 points against them. The score made it look alot closer than it was. Again the D was the issue. It has been the D all year not just against Samford or even Furman. It was also an issue against a D 2 team. How does he explain that?

You already have the answer, our defense is terrible. Coaches cannot call out their players, they can only blame themselves.
The problem is that all of the easy games were at the beginning of the year so from here on out small improvements can be made but it may not seem like it. There isn't much else that can be said about this year other than that.

Just look at the 2 deep chart and the overall roster on the defensive side of the ball. We have some very talented Freshmen and Red-Shirt Freshmen but they do not have college game experience. Yes it is the coaches responsibility to coach them up but many of these kids were playing high school ball last year and it takes time to do it right. I remember how excited last year everyone was when Wiley was announced as our new D-coordinator and the same people are now calling for Western to fire all our coaches and start over. The sky is not falling. We might not win another game this year, but the sky is still not falling. We are light years ahead of where we were before Coach Speir got here. I knew this would happen once we had a few pretty good seasons. Peoples expectations rise and then they want to get rid of the folks responsible for raising their expectations. So one kid who does not play much transferred in at the beginning of this year and now wants to transfer out and all of the naysayers start implying that we have a problem with kids wanting to transfer out because of something the coaches are doing. This is because the sky is falling crowd want to find something bad to point to. This is just piling on because we lost 2 football games and one of the games could have gone either way. Read between the lines people. The kid that transferred in was not getting playing time wherever he came from and now is transferring out because he is not getting the playing time he thinks he should. Probably not good enough to have more playing time. It is that simple, but the sky is falling crowd are just looking for some more things to blame the coaches for. With fans like this, who needs enemies.

I haven't seen anyone piling on about this kid transferring. I can't speak for what someone else might be thinking but in my case, I simply wondered why someone who just got here this year is already transferring before the year is out and wondered if anyone knew why. Kids these days will transfer over playing time or other things at the drop of a hat, it seems. If playing time is the reason, then okay and I wish him good luck.

I disagree... I thought he owned up to the problems and explained what the coaching staff is going to try and do to fix it... sometimes the way you have been doing things don't work... could be the teaching method, could be the student or athletes learning method... sometimes you can over complicate things... he, and the other coaches are doing it right in evaluating their teaching/coaching method, and trying their best to find a way to put a winning team on the field...
