We should take 1 week out of each month and fax the crap out of the White House - Attention : Chancellor and Board Members 828.227.7176 Example : Please invest in our football facilities. Pressbox, Indoor Practice Field, Pressure Wash East Side along with updating Restrooms should be Phase 1. *Plenty of Free Fax APPS on smartphones. And also FAX 828.227.7498 This is ironic. These comments were made to an article written in the Asheville Citizen in 2007. Since 2007, we still have the same complaints and concerns. How pitiful? This is the definition of a University that does not care what the Alumni think or want. Like the person who attacked me the other day who said that the university was for the students and the staff and not the Alumni. It is true. That is how they look at it. www.topix.com/forum/city/asheville-nc/TOUP0GG8G3TP9HFAS/p1

Just curious here....what, if anything, has been done to it in the way of upgrades etc. since it was built? I do not think anything has been done to the East Side and Press Box since they were built in 1974... At least not major! Skip That's pretty much what I thought but was not sure. That sort of sums up the apathy from the admin building then doesn't it? It is a shame that the athletic funding and upgrades have not kept up with the growth and improvements that the rest of the campus has experienced.

So this is part me bragging as a proud parent, but part me trying to understand why some ***might*** not have much (if any) priority for athletics, and particularly football.
My middle daughter just got accepted by Western today. The odds are probably against her going that far away from home (her older sister also got accepted but stayed in Florida), but it makes me proud she got in and that she has serious considerations for the school we all love. She currently has been accepted by WCU, Florida Gulf Coast, Flagler, and the University of South Florida. Two of those schools don't even have a football team, and she HATES football. My oldest daughter is a football junkie, and has not missed a single home football game in the 1.5 seasons she has been in college (she even goes to some basketball and baseball games). My middle daughter could care less really about any sport, and will probably not attend games unless I go. She would be going to WCU because she loves the scenery, likes the school and the increasingly strong academics, and because the cost is EXTREMELY reasonable particularly compared to any other out-of-state opportunity. I have a 3rd daughter who always played sports when she was young, and she doesn't mind going to games - but it is far from a priority for her. The point is, of 3 soon to be college kids (youngest is in 10th grade), only 1 of them really cares that much about athletics or if her school's football team is any good.
So that might be much more the "normal" college student of today than the athletic-crazed supporters we were/are. We can easily cite the success and growth App State has seen since the mid-2000s and how it has ridden right along with their football team, but I am just pointing out what I see in my own household for some perspective.

I was in a recent conversation about WCU athletic funding with a couple of fellow alums. They of course aired the same complaints that we all have been airing for years now. They then went on about increased enrollment and how we need to capitalize on that as much as possible, ie raise student fees to help fund athletics. They were surprised when I informed them that NC Promise has a stipulation in it that basically prevents the university from increasing fees. So, bear that in mind when you are thinking about ways we could pay for these much needed improvements.

I hear so many people saying we need to increase student fees and that’s just not going to happen.

RE: student fees - aren't we already collecting very comparable athletic student fees to all the other UNC-member institutions? Since I am acutely aware of the costs right now WCU and my daughter, the current athletic fee is $378/semester, with another $48/semester going toward athletic facility debt (which in contrast is lower than the $77 for the student rec center, $56.50 dining facility, and $68 for Brown Hall debt funds). Our athletic facility debt is even lower than our transportation fee (that is $59 per semester per student for local-area shuttle service).
So with NC Promise I don't think any of those can change (or only within some small allowable percentage), but we obviously must have messed something up with more money from students going toward the shuttle service than goes to athletic facilities???

Communication with athletics administration:
First off I will not list names publicly, but I will give the details of a pretty discouraging incident. Back in the middle of August I contacted someone concerning some help with social communication to promote the athletics. The details of this was simply that I was wanting to help promote via the twitter platform. I wasn’t looking pay, only here to help. But I was looking a little details involving this matter. So I reached out to someone (person 1). I got an immediate response. They copied me on an email with the person (person 2) that could answer my questions. From there, here’s that communication happened...
September 4, followed up (person 2). No response. October 11, followed up (person 2). No response. October 11, emailed their boss (person 3), No response. October 12, response (person 2) was basically clarifying what I asked in question form. October 12, I respond (person 2) October 19, followed up (person 2) October 19, response (person 2) saying he has to involve someone else.
TL;DR, I requested some basic info that end of day would be a yes w some details or no. 2+ months has resulted in 6 emails from me and total of 2 responses from 2 people and still no answer.
Sad.

This is just my opinion, but, since you are not a university employee (which they can control what employees publish), I'm pretty positive they will not give you any authorization for social media. Bottom line, no authorization, little or no information will be forthcoming. They do have employees that are responsible for that sort of thing (social media), and it's easier to just ignore you, after all, you are only a Catamount fan.

Then don’t spend 60+ days to say no. Again, I’ll take no and move on. After discussing with person 1, they would know a yes/no but it wasn’t their department. Instead, they connected me immediately to someone that goes unresponsive who were aware aware in this field. Instead, I’ve now gotten the same approval from another SoCon school in a third of the amount of time and will be spending spare time creating hype for a competitor. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Yeah they won’t allow anyone to post stuff officially without being a university employee. I tried for something like that on the alumni side a few years ago and was shut down immediately. It’s a shame you couldn’t get an answer though.
