I expect the Special Teams Coordinator to be fired soon. Speir mentioned how bad the kickoff return really hurt during post game. Somebody has to go to make it “look good / feel good”.
My guess? If you’re not from Appalachian St ..... don’t be surprised if you receive a “pink slip” soon!

Rest assured it will not be the DC Wiley... It might be hard to blame the dbs coach for kick off but it would not surprise me. Isn’t the Special Teams /TE coach one of the App State Gang.

26, 10, 50, 44, 66, 26, 59.
Those are the points given up this season. That is an average of 40.14 points per contest. In SoCon play we are giving up 49 points per game. That is all-time bad - maybe SoCon all-time bad. I expect UNC to score more than 50, so that will be at least 4 games where we have 50 or more scored on us. Wofford has shown they are capable of scoring a lot so they may get there, too. I expect ETSU and Citadel to at minimum score in the 30s.
We lost a game yesterday where we had 710 yards of offense and scored 46 points. So giving up a KO return and having a few turnovers is NOT the reason we lost. It didn't help, but we honestly would have needed to score basically every time we had the ball to win. It probably will be that way the rest of the games.
Not being able to tackle, getting burned for wide-open TDs through the middle of the field, not adjusting a scheme that can't stop a decent running football team. None of those things have anything to do with the amount of money or support.
We need that support to become a really good football team and to win championships, but right now we very well may end up as the worst defense in the history of the school.

Then flip the above to look at our offense:
33, 28, 52, 38, 28, 6, 46
That is an average of 33 points per game (34 in SoCon games). I used to try and lay some blame on the offense about how we expose the defense, but I now think that is a crazy excuse. There are only 2 efforts (Samford and Chatty) that our offense didn't produce enough for us to win. So with even a middle-of-the pack Defense that would have us at 5-2.
I am not condoning or expecting a school like WCU to fire guys in the middle of the season unless there was something illegal, immoral, or other actions that require immediate discipline. But I will say it doesn't take much to figure out the defensive stats and the miscues we have had in special teams are where our "opportunities" lie.

It seems as if someone is willing to take care of business.

The same should happen for the DC, Defensive Backs coach and ST Coordinator.

Here’s your firing. Signifying someone’s future or just the season?

Special Teams like the Defense is young. It takes awhile. Firing people and starting over is not the solution. Only time will fix this. If you fire the Special Teams guy now, who replaces him now to make things better. We have had good special teams in the past with the same guy being in charge. I love all these people on here with an opinion that have never played a down of organized football in their entire life, but they sure know what needs to be done so that we win all our games.
