I shifted it to scoring defense and we were still not last - we were 111th at 40.1 points per game but still ahead of VMI who is next to last (123rd) at 51.3.
Now turn that to only SoCon games and we are the lowest in league play (giving up 49 points per game) and VMI gets I guess what is considered "better" (48.83 points per game versus their overall average). VMI plays UTC (not really a high-scoring offense), Tusculum, Furman (who could still be playing without their QB), and ODU. We finish with ETSU (not generally a high-scoring team), two triple option teams who will probably score at least in the 30s if not more (they typically take time off the clock, but might score on a bunch of big plays against us), and UNC (who will probably once again run the score up). So it is probably going to get real close for the season between WCU and VMI for worst scoring defense in the SoCon.
