Why not try a two back set with Spenser and Ferguson who can hit the holes fast and who have speed for big plays -so we can make 10 yards and keep possession rather than 1st down up the middle and then worrying how we will make a first down! We are so damned slow to try anything different. Can not make strategy changes as things change during the game. Why not try a 4-3 defense - our linebackers are not getting to the plays - so put more pressure on the offense. I noticed complaint the we are weak on bench - that is pure bull"Censored Word" - we are just so set on redshirting players that we don't allow some of new faces - Torrion Stephenson is great on the d line - and why not try Trevon Poole - I honestly don't think our coaches can think outside the proverbial box (what they learned 7-8 years ago at App). Coaches you have had 7-8 years of experience to learn something other than what you used to know. And if you need advice - go to Geoff Collins and pick his brain - he will probably tell you that you have to build a defense FIRST!

GaCat, your comments make too much sense & the Coaching Staff will never change. They have now played 7 games and still running the same offense & defense. Somehow they continue to expect different results. The Spread Offense does not match well with a poor defense. I have been saying this for weeks. Glad to see a growing number of posters starting to agree with me now. WCU has got to keep the ball away from the opposition offense & Control the clock. Our defense is the gift that keeps on giving to our opposition.

We ran for 300 yards. Coaches lost that game, no doubt. The OC is full of himself, on that I agree. I’ve posted once again after I said I wouldn’t lol. Loses like these could get a coach fired.

Maybe someone can explain this to me - several times in the game it looked like our defense was running 2 down linemen with 5 linebackers - what is that formation all about?

Smack, can you now understand why I have not been a big fan of Coach Speir & his Staff for the last 3 or 4 years? The OC is weak & the talent on the offensive side sometimes are able to overcome his shortcomings. The Offense continues to put up outstanding numbers in spite of him. I’m planning on coming to the Homecoming Game & I hope to meet you at the game.

Did I not say that Spencer could hit a crease and go. He should be our starter and the other thing I said was Ferguson was very similar to Spencer and should also see action. What the hell do we have to lose - we can't make consistent 1st downs to maintain possession, move the ball down the field, and keep it away from the opponents. Ferguson is too good not to play! This what I was talking about the OC doesn't even know our personnel's capabilities. It is called stubbornness and stupidity (if repeated over time). Our coaches don't have a clue and CAN NOT adjust to game time conditions. If Coach Speir wants some advice - he should go to Geoff Collins (a real coach) that Bardo didn't have enough sense to sign when he wanted the job really bad - now he makes $2 Million/year at Temple.

You are the only one that has ever said Ferguson has incredible speed and one of the best backs we have. I believe he is a walk on. How do you know his abilities? Are you related to him? We have 3 pretty good backs that I know of and one of them is not Ferguson. Not saying you are wrong, but it would make no sense to not play him if he is better than the other backs we have.

Two weeks in a row we see WCU choke after being up by two tds! I guess the OC forgot that we have a TE but you would think after the game he had last week one could remember! To be fair I think we did look his way one time but he was covered. If 5 doesn’t get better health wise we may only have Spencer and Ferguson for the last two games !!

My son played with Ferguson. He hits holes very well, sees the field, and never takes a bad hit. Is he the fastest back we have, probably not. He was on the school record 4x100m team as a senior and was a a state qualifier in 100m his junior year. He also won the 300m hurdle conference title his junior year and got beat his senior year by fellow walk-on Connor Moore.
He also played safety, punted and kicked off earlier in his HS career. He blocked numerous XP coming off the edge. He has good hands although in HS he wasn't called on to catch much. He was a versatile, all around good HS player.
I know the staff likes the fact that he always gets positive yards when he carries the ball. He has been described as a potential Christian McCaffery type player. He has been on kick return and was on kickoff earlier. What their aversion on offense is now, maybe other than size, I don't know. He got his redshirt last year.
