This is becoming a hot topic, so instead of just tacking it on to the other game threads where it has been showing up I thought I would start a new thread dedicated to the topic. Place what you know (not what you "think" or "have heard") regarding football coaching salaries in the SoCon:
WCU's Mark Speir made $213,928 in 2017 (https://www.newsobserver.com/news/databases/public-salaries/article11863496.html)
ETSU's Randy Sanders starts with $225k (https://www.johnsoncitypress.com/Football/2017/12/22/Sanders-contract-at-ETSU-gives-him-incentive-to-win). Sanders will also most likely end up with AT LEAST an additional $40k in bonuses due to how well the Bucs have done this year.
UTC's Tom Arth looks like a base of $185k (https://databases.usatodaynetwork.com/knoxnews/UTpay2018?query=arth). I have found multiple articles that say he makes more than the $230k total comp Huesman was making before him (Huesman shows a last base salary of $180k).
Citadel's Brent Thompson made a base of $215k this year (https://www.admin.sc.gov/accountability-portal/state-salaries?a=44&j=0&n=thompson)
VMI's Scott Wachenheim was harder to find and the only good number seemed to be $141,999 from 2016 (http://data.richmond.com/salaries/2016/state/virginia-military-institute/scott-wachenheim)
Those are the easier ones that are from public institutions. As a bonus for in-state FCS coaches at public schools:
NC A&T's Coach Broadway made $314,290 in 2017 (https://www.newsobserver.com/news/databases/public-salaries/article11863496.html)
NC Central's Jerry Mack made $271,000 in 2017 (https://www.newsobserver.com/news/databases/public-salaries/article11863496.html)
Another side note bonus from a SC public FCS school:
SC State's Oliver Pough made $242,962 this year (https://www.admin.sc.gov/accountability-portal/state-salaries?a=4&j=0)
So against other SoCon public schools, Speir is paid right around what most are making (with VMI well behind). It would seem all of them are blown away by the HBCU schools playing FCS football. I don't know what - if any - other bonuses and incentives Coach Speir makes.
Privates:
As expected, I couldn't really find anything other than some people guessing at the total compensation for the other coaches. I can't even guess based on their last jobs, as some came from G5 (Hendrix) and P5 (Conklin) programs where I expect they made more as assistants and coordinators as they do as head coaches in the SoCon. I can find plenty of articles, but none that look credible with a dollar number included.
