This year the Sun Belt by basically all rankings is the 8th best conference - behind the Power 5, American, and Mountain West but ahead of Conference USA. App State just won their 40th game in the past 4 years, and have gone to a bowl game every year they have been eligible to do so. They also cracked the top-25 this season, and are about to start on that $120M or whatever project to expand the football stadium and add dorms around the stadium.
Satterfield’s total salary when you throw in all the retention pay, bonuses, etc. approaches $700k. You know how much Charlotte’s coach was making? I don’t have 2018 numbers, but in 2017 his base pay was $256k. Houston probably makes more than that at JMU. Charlotte also has never had a winning record - not in their couple of FCS seasons and not since joining FBS.
Like I said, the “biggest” opportunity is ECU because of the conference they are in. The “better” football choice if he is trying to parlay this into a power 5 job in the next couple of seasons is App in my opinion. ECU would get walloped by App if they played right now (or by NC A&T, but I digress).
