"I get what your saying but I don't think you will ever meet a player who decided not to join a school because of their press box (aka the rat hole)."Obviously true, but I'd bet that a new press facility along with suites or boxes for business entertaining could catch the eye of potential corporate sponsors, and that puts money in the bank. A video board in Ramsey would make attending a basketball game a much more enjoyable experience in today's digital age, thus boosting attendance and ticket revenues. A clubhouse with locker rooms at Hennon would be very appealing to baseball prospects that might see our current facility as second rate. And yet somehow those things aren't viewed as being positives for creating winning programs? Makes me scratch my head, but I've been doing that for 30+ years. You are not wrong. Randy is blowing smoke up everybody's butt. He knows facilities help but if he can't get facilities or fix the press box, he down plays the importance of those things. He is now taking credit for increasing scholarships to various sports under his watch and most if not all of that is because of NC Promise which makes our dollars go farther. I have to hand it to Randy though. He oversees an athletic department which has been under funded and under performing under his entire tenure, but he loves to toot his own horn and say look what I have done and just wait because better days are coming. He has laid the foundation, blah, blah, blah. Better days have been coming for 30+ years my friend. Bottom line, the university has and continues to let the alumni base down in so many ways especially around athletics and Randy is just circling the wagons because he can't affect any real change and he wants to keep his cushy job until he can retire. And that boys and girls is the Gods honest truth. If you disagree, please see the past 30+ years of this movie. The ending is always the same. fixed garbled letters only - Jerry

You are not giving credit to the hundreds of people who have either joined the Catamount Club for the first time or increased their donations. Randy is a unique individual and has been at least a good, if not very good A.D. Just look at the past few in his position. He has presided over about a 125% increase in giving during his tenure, getting better coaches on board, and taking a raging dumpster fire and reduced it to a smoldering one. Could we have done better? I don't know, but I do know that a lot of good things have happened in the past seven years. We are still behind the curve, but we have made up some ground. Next - let's get a chancellor in here that sees the value in athletics and is willing to do what he/she can to improve our situation. We have a selection committee that I believe understands that issue. Now - if the BOG is willing to accept their recommendation, that's another story. fixed the quote only - Jerry

One thing that is puzzling to me is our AD when he came in promised the student body that they would see a playoff game in Cullowhee before they graduated. Then when APP. and GA. SOUTHERN left we were told we would have a chance to dominate the SOCON. We are the doormat of the SOCON and APP has left us in their dust. Its time for our AD to make a statement as to what happened and where we our going. Thats what he gets paid to do.

He might be the best AD that Western could hope for but as Bill Parcells so famously says, "you are only as good as your record says your are..." Everything else is hyperbole and bull sh-t. Just saying...

Once you get on a bandwagon about some of the "hired help" as you call them, you harp on it relentlessly, never saying anything new.

I will try to do a better job in 2019 to not harp on the same topics. I was not sure you knew where i stood. BTW. Happy New Year! Here is to a much better year for athletics. I hope and pray we bring home some championships. All of my complaining, bitching and moaning will stop if we would just win. Winning fixes everything.

Well....unless we get some chancellor that will not tolerate losing and losing....you will get to continue to complain and complain.....personally, I was emotionally involved for many years, but not anymore. Weathered Cat, I agree with you that we will probably not get good leadership this go around. First, most of the highly qualified candidates were probably scared off during the first go around of the Chancellor search that ended in a debacle. Second, athletics is not a priority. The university needs classrooms, dorms and parking garages more than athletic facilities and funds for good coaches. It is what it is. I am with you in that I am getting to a point where I don't care and I will find something else to do in the fall on Saturdays. Western Carolina does not care about it's alumni and what we want. The administration will tell you that the most important thing is the current students. In the long run, lack of caring about the front porch of the University and lack of listening to Alumni will hurt Western and will hurt recruitment of good students. It is just a sad situation. One of my kids graduated from UGA and another one graduated from UofF and another goes to Kennesaw. They all seem to care more about winning than Western. Maybe I will start pulling for Kennesaw and join the Owl faithful.

I am totally with you. I loved our football under Coach Waters and I enjoyed it and felt good under Hodgin and Bleil. Coach Bleil had us moving up. A spineless Bardo should have kept Bleil. The university didn't capture those days to improve our football. Very poor hirings as in Wagner and Strahm. I watched Kennesaw this year and they had a great team. I have done my part for many years but I think I am done. The latest BS involving accounting of salaries is an insult to my intelligence. I imagine 2 or 3 years from now with some new chancellor, the AD will be cut loose as well as HC and history will repeat. I have seen this movie. I've done my part over many years as well, and I too am getting burned out on Catamount football, basketball, and baseball. It's getting to the point, I wonder why after all these years I should care. My contributions will be reduced, and my attendance will be reduced. No more season tickets, I'll buy the tickets that I think the Cats can & will win in the games I actually want to attend in the future. I do still love the university but have given up on the sports program.
