So is his response after the fact....I guess we will see what happens. I will say this. He has improved things at Western, but not wanting to start a fight. If Mark wants another job at a bigger school, this is his only shot. Nobody is going to hire him with the record he has had at Western. App is his only shot at this point in his career and he loves App State. He sent his kid to school there so that he would not have to go to Western and that kind of says it all. I don't App will hire him but I have been surprised before. If he goes to App though, there will be many people on this board that will like it. I am disappointed. I can certainly agree with your statements there. No argument from me. I know we all would only be having the typical yearly facility gripes if we had won 7 or 8 games. But a 3-8 season brings out the frustration in everyone and because we are on a message board it can, at times, turn into arguments and attacks, most of which are not intentional. I would say he has about a .01% chance of really being considered for a bigger coaching position just based on his record.

I understand about coaches leaving for greener pastures for more money and a bigger school. But in Mark's case, he makes comments all the time about how much he loves Cullowhee and how he thanks the good Lord for putting him in Cullowhee and how he wants Western to be his last stop, etc., etc. A little hypocritical if you ask me. I believe it to be true and he needs to own it and he and Randy don't need to make any lame announcement of how this is not true. That is insult to injury because they would be assuming we are stupid. He interviewed for the job. So be it. He better win next season. I know he'd like the job, but I can't seriously think that he would think ASU would seriously consider a coach with losing season 2 of the last three years and 4 of the last 7 years at his current job. If it were April 1st, I'd just say April Fool. If he wants to leave Western, it is the only shot he has. He has never gotten it though. Leaving for App state would be like Nick Saben leaving Alabama for Auburn but we hate App more than Alabama hates Auburn. They are a bunch of arrogant prick boone goons but he still has pictures of App in his office and he wears App State colors when he goes to watch App play which is allot. Just saying that I almost hope they hire him at this point. He just does not get it and does not understand what it is all about Mayby Satterfield will recommend him. They are buddys.

The post is still up under Brian twitter account, had he recanted it, he would have deleted the post. Also, it's still up on the FootballScoop.com, which is where Brian got the information in the first place. I understand about coaches leaving for greener pastures for more money and a bigger school. Coach Speir has been BSing about WCU from the first day he stepped on the WCU’s Campus. He knows that he can not take the Program any further than what he has done over the past 7 years considering his capabilities & the lack of support from the University. I never thought he was qualified to be WCU’s Head Football Coach. I see that App State is also loosing their DC & maybe App State will hire him as the DC instead of the HC Job. I still can not believe App State would hire him for anything based on his W/L at WCU. I tend to agree with some on here that he did interview simply because he applied for the job. App out of courtesy to him & his 8 years coaching experience, App would give him an opportunity to interview. I personally would like to see him moved back to Boone where he would be happier than staying at WCU & fighting all the obstacles a Coach has to deal with at WCU.

Check out @coachspeir’s Tweet: From the coaches mouth, well kind of. Why didn't he just come right out and say "I did not interview for the head coaching position at ASU? The way it's worded, the twitter can mean anything, it's certainly is not a denial of the published report.

The reports that came it today are inaccurate. Now stop trying to stir the pot.

(Obvious sarcasm) Burk, his support for ASU goes far beyond his son. His contacts, the Coaches he has hired with ASU pedigree, his close relationship to Satterfield, his ASU postings on social media & even pictures of ASU in his office. He is a very good man but he does not have the ability to take WCU to the promise land. If he leaves for another job, I say more power to him. WCU has too many obstacles for any coach to master at Western.

App wants and needs someone with a better pedigree than Speir. And I mean that very respectfully. Speir has done a lot for WCU. The fact that his son CHOSE App has nothing to do with whether he interviewed for that job or how much he loves Western. Zeb grew up in Boone and probably didn't want to be like Huesman at UTC. His other son is named JACKSON for Jackson County. Coach loves it here - and if he has more winning seasons, will be here as long as he wants to.

I won’t share my sources. Don’t you know that when you share your sources you lose your sources? I like the info that is fed to me from many places within the university, but myself and a handful of other donors have been told it is false and there should be some form of response from mark and/or randy soon. It’s a nice fuel to the fire for the anti Speir crowd though. Don't act like someone on this board made it up just to hurt Speir. It came from a usually reliable source, FootballScoop.com I don't believe the story at all, I think Speir is pretty direct and honest guy, but even if he did, maybe he did it as a courtesy interview just to see, or for his son or for whoever. I know coaches and even regular joe workers who may interview NOT to take a new job but sometimes for leverage for better position or pay. I did this once and they did not want to lose me (and I was really not going anywhere) but I got a better position and pay just so I would be more happy and stay. Not back to FootballScoop, I would love to know where they got their info from but they reported a false story just last week. So here I go let me bring up something ECU related and offend a few but the point is to point out Footballscoop is not purely credible but last week, Footballscoop posted the article "Mike Houston to be next Charlotte Coach" In the article it mentioned these statements "James Madison head coach Mike Houston will take the same position at Charlotte." Also, "At Charlotte, Houston will take over one of the best high-ceiling young programs in the Group of 5. The 49ers, who played their first season in 2013, play in the 5-year-old, on-campus Richardson Stadium and are located in one of the fastest-growing urban areas in the country with a hundreds of recruits in a 300-mile radius from Charlotte, stretching down to Atlanta and up into Virginia." "Houston takes over for Brad Lambert, who was Charlotte’s only head coach until he was let go on Nov. 18. Charlotte is 12-36 overall and 8-24 in conference play since joining Conference USA in 2015, though the 49ers posted their best season to date in 2018, going 5-7 overall and 4-4 in C-USA play." I think that article proved to be 100% completely false!!!! The only thing Houston did was verbally speak to the AD at UNCC and said he had interest. footballscoop.com/news/report-mike-houston-next-charlotte-coach/
