from footballscoop.com.....
SoCon: Former Memphis AD Tom Bowen is a candidate for the Southern Conference commissionership, according to the Memphis Commercial Appeal. SoCon commissioner John Iamarino announced his resignation on March 15, and Bowen resigned earlier this month to pursue the position.

How is the commissioner selected? Do the schools vote? I'm not sure why he would specifically left his position to pursue this job if there wasn't a political wink and nod - or if he had been told he has a good shot at it. On the other hand, seems strange that our conference schools would want someone with the reputation of a Memphis athletic department.

I think the college presidents/chancellors vote for the commissioner. I don't know if it's just a simple majority or some other figure required (such as 2/3s).
