So who's worse? It could only be Samford, and there's an article elsewhere on the board about what Samford is going to do with their stadium to "fix it". I don't see any official plans for ANY changes in Whitmire, even to replace the out of date turf? You got an answer for that.
You can put lipstick on that pig with the pictures you posted, but it's still a pig - with no plans for any upgrades.

My comments were that it is not where any of us would want it to be - even referencing the sheen on the field/turf, the dirtiness of the stands, etc. And clearly we all know that there seems to be no plans to address it anytime soon. My pics were just showing the stadium similar to how the other pictures tried to depict the rest of the SoCon stadiums.

I agree with you that the picture that was selected was about as bad a view of the stadium and it's surroundings as possible, but, when recruits come up to visit, and when they go to summer camps at Western, view #1 is what they see.
I have heard that it has been mentioned that a proposal is floating around to see if the new Board of Trustees may promote a special bond issue to be used for Athletic facilities improvement. I heard this, but someone who is in the know, said that nothing like that will be seriously considered until the present bond is paid up, which is around three more years I believe.
This old Cat Catcadet1 is 75, and three years is a long time to wait for this bond to be floated and the improvements to be done. I will be in in my 80's before this would be done, and quite frankly, I am getting frustrated with all the promises(Indoor practice facility, and major improvements to the football press box as well as new fencing or some brick in place of the metal fence that surrounds the field.) I forgot to mention the beautiful turf as well.
Mark, please have a very good season, as the magic number to make the playoffs for the first time since 1983 is for us to have 7 wins or more:

WCU 38 MERCER 24 The entire purpose of this thread and pictures was to show just how bad the facility looks compaired with our competition in the SoCon, not to showcase Whitmire. Yes, I could have looked around and found pictures of the facility like those 95 posted, that presents the stadium in a little better light, however when someone walks inside the empty facility and views the east stands from the west side, that view is what they see. How many videos have you watched with this background the prominent view? I don't think any enhancements have been made on the east stands since they opened in 1974 and it certainly shows. Sure on game day, with the stands full, things don't look so bad, but empty, like in the picture, shows the true status of the "prison like facility" with all the chain-link fencing. The only competitor we have for worse facility is Samford's stadium, which is older than Whitmire, but looks much better empty, it's just small, and they have big plan for major upgrades. No prospect could be impressed when they walk inside an empty Whitmire. I'm sure most think... "What the hell?"

Anyone who wants to bash our stadium has never spent any time in the visitor stand in Charleston. Good grief that was an experience, from having to enter via the back side with all the old crap around to the men's rooms and their "walls" to the peeling lead paint. Their visitor stand were without a doubt a health and safety hazard!

If you get there before halftime, you'll still miss the first few minutes of 2nd half. I was there last year and there was no difference between 2018 and 2016.

To bad those stands you bring up are now just a memory, the admin at the Citadel did something about those horrible stands, they tore them down - What's WCU's plan? The Citadel does have "official" plans to replace the "visitor" side, it may take a couple of years, but it's going to be done, unlike WCU, which has no idea what to do or when to do anything about the Whitmire.

Oh how I wish the only problem with Whitmire has was "one line" at a visitor concession. But, I guess you do have to be pretty picky to find something wrong with this......

Paladin Stadium capacity = 16,000 Average 2018 attendance ~6,000 - If you are a kid choosing schools - some will choose 11,000 butts in seats over a pretty stadium that is 1/3 full.
Furman Endowment - not available, but they have received $110,000,000 from the Duke family endowment alone. Money is not a problem for Furman - no matter their commitment to athletics. If you have the kind of money available to you at schools like Samford, Wofford, Furman and VMI, nice stadia should not be a problem.
I'm not making excuses for what has happened at WCU, but it's a lot easier to have nice facilities at private schools with wealthy benefactors.
