2021 Commissioner’s Cup
(Men’s athletics – final standings) 1. Furman .829 2. ETSU .809 3. Samford .738 4. VMI .672 5. Wofford .580 6. UNCG .573 7. Mercer .544 8. Western Carolina .523
9. Chattanooga .502 10. The Citadel .378 Germann Cup
(Women’s athletics – final standings) 1. Samford .953 2. Furman .922 3. Mercer .757 4. ETSU .700 5. Wofford .682 6. Chattanooga .615 7. Western Carolina .591
8. UNCG .546 9. The Citadel .258 10. VMI .217 No cups were awarded for 2020 - (COVID19) so 2019 is the latest standings to compare this years results against. In 2021 the men finished 8th, in 2019 they finished 8th. In 2021 the women finished 7th, in 2019 they finished 8th. So, no movement on the men, moved up one place on the women, I'd say that still results in an overall grade of "F" for the AD (COVID19 or no COVID19), as every other school had to contend with COVID19 as well. 2019 Commissioner’s Cup
(Men’s athletics) 1. ETSU .889 2. Furman .829 3. Wofford .739 4. Samford .729 5. Mercer .593 6. UNCG .589 7. Chattanooga .529 8. Western Carolina .467
9. The Citadel .403 10. VMI .386 Germann Cup
(Women’s athletics) 1. Furman .904 2. Samford .901 3. ETSU .796 4. Mercer .735 5. UNCG .633 6. Chattanooga .628 7. Wofford .598 8. Western Carolina .529
9. VMI .206 10. The Citadel .181

What the standings show is how much football weighs in the overall standings. The ONLY sport VMI had true success in this year was football and they ended up in 4th in the cup standings. They do participate in, I think, all 10 men's sports offered, but in looking at the standings in each sport, VMI was middle to bottom of the conference.

If you can believe the SoCon, football counts no more than women's tennis or any other sponsored sport. Here's how they say the trophy's are awarded. ....and there you go, a formula to give Furman or Wofford or Samford the trophy every year.

Clear as mud. Just proves the point that Western has not adequately funded athletics at a a D1 SoCon level since we joined the SoCon in 1976. You get what you pay for.
