I certainly hope the new AD has his eye on these two cups, and where WCU ranks in each. Been like this forever!!!!
With just three men's and women's championships remaining, ETSU leads the Commissioner's Cup standings and Samford leads the Germann Cup standings, with Furman in a close second in both races!
Commissioner’s Cup (Men’s athletics)
1. ETSU 0.791 2. Furman 0.785 3. VMI 0.603 4. UNCG 0.537 5. Chattanooga 0.502 6. Samford 0.465 7. Wofford 0.455 8. Mercer 0.428 9. The Citadel 0.325 10. Western Carolina 0.309
Germann Cup (Women’s athletics) 1. Samford 0.889 2. Furman 0.804 3. ETSU 0.618 4. Mercer 0.584 5. Wofford 0.568 6. Chattanooga 0.544 7. Western Carolina 0.413 8. UNCG 0.390 9. The Citadel 0.201 10. VMI 0.174
Dead last and 7th place is not real impressive.

It's time Catamount fans stopped using this as an excuse. Only the top 7 sports are measured from each school, so playing 19 or 20 sports does not give you an advantage over the schools that play the minimum. "Using a system modeled after the one used in determining the Learfield Sports Directors' Cup, scoring is done on a percentage basis, with only the top seven sports for each school counting toward its season total. The scoring format has been in place since the 2014-15 academic year"

We are dead last in spending and facilities in the SoCon, so why should we not be in dead last in the rankings for best men’s and women’s sports teams? I will bet you if we up our athletic budgets, we will move up the list proportional to our spending. You get what you pay for.

VMI spends a little less than WCU, and look what they did in football this season. SoCon title and trip to the NCAA. $14,882,283 - WCU $14,812,966 - VMI Plus, VMI ended up 3d in the men's cup, while WCU ended up last.

Our men’s track in 1st place tonight after the 1st day at the SoCon weekend. Maybe Coach Bell attended to recruit for football!!

A big part of why we are not competitive across the board in the SoCon is lack of commitment and funding. Not saying you are wrong but I am saying there is a systemic reason why we do not compete at all for the cups.

Our track program (and baseball) has consistently kept us in the middle of the pack with their conference champ domination in a period you are saying we are not competitive. Add newer sports soccer and softball that are without a catamount legacy record.

The Commissioner’s and Germann cups are awarded annually to the Southern Conference schools fielding the league’s best all-around men’s and women’s sports programs, respectively. Scoring is conducted on a percentage basis, with only the top seven sports for each school counting toward its season total. The SoCon sponsors 22 total sports, with the league’s three co-ed rifle teams counting toward the Commissioner’s Cup standings and the two women’s rifle teams counting toward the Germann Cup. Each sport is worth 10 points, with each spot in the standings given equal measure relative to how many schools sponsor that particular sport. For sports that determine a regular-season champion, a two-point bonus is awarded for winning the league tournament. Each school’s total for the year is divided by 70, the maximum number of points possible when counting seven sports, to find its percentage.
Commissioner’s Cup (Men’s athletics – final standings) 1. Furman .829 2. ETSU .809 3. Samford .738 4. VMI .672 5. Wofford .580 6. UNCG .573 7. Mercer .544 8. Western Carolina .523 9. Chattanooga .502 10. The Citadel .378
Germann Cup (Women’s athletics – final standings) 1. Samford .953 2. Furman .922 3. Mercer .757 4. ETSU .700 5. Wofford .682 6. Chattanooga .615 7. Western Carolina .591 8. UNCG .546 9. The Citadel .258 10. VMI .217
