This is a place to discuss the SoCon Men's and Women's Cup. Hopefully, we can discuss this through out the season, and not just at the end of the year when the Cup winners are announced by the SoCon. The cup standings is a good measure of how well each schools sports teams are doing overall, in relation to the other SoCon schools. You can find information about the cups, here soconsports.com/sports/2020/5/13/GEN_0513205902.aspx

In 47 years of having never won a football conference championship, WCU has never won a Commissioner's Cup or Germann Cup either. Yet, Samford, a SoCon member for only 15 years, this year swept the Cups, for the first sweep since Appy State claimed both cups in 2013. Samford’s men won the Commissioner’s Cup for the first time, while the women claimed their third straight Germann Cup and fifth overall. Commissioner's Cup
(Men’s athletics – final standings) 1. Samford .929 2. ETSU .812 3. Furman .738 4. Mercer .641 5. Chattanooga .611 6. Western Carolina .597
7. UNCG .546 8. The Citadel .462 9. VMI .439 10. Wofford .438 Germann Cup
(Women’s athletics – final standings) 1. Samford .955 2. ETSU .833 3. Furman .739 4. Wofford .6589 5. Western Carolina .6587
6. Chattanooga .643 7. Mercer .626 8. UNCG .476 9. The Citadel .279 10. VMI .183

Have we moved up or have we always been middle of the pack? I thought I remembered years where we were dead last or close to the bottom.

Have we moved up or have we always been middle of the pack? I thought I remembered years where we were dead last or close to the bottom. Since 2010 (that as far back as I wanted to go), we've pretty much been in the bottom 4th every year except 2016 when the men got as high as 3rd: WCU finished each year:2023 - men 6th, women 5th 2022 - men 8th, women 7th 2021 - men 5th, women 7th 2020 - no cups awarded - covid19 2019 - men 8th, women 8th 2018 - men 8th, women 8th 2017 - men 7th, women 7th 2016 - men 3th, women 5th 2015 - men 7th, women 5th 2014 - men 6th, women 8th 2013 - men 6th, women 9th 2012 - men 11th, women 7th 2011 - men 10th, women 9th 2010 - men 9th, women 8th

Signs of improvement 2022-2023:
#1 Fourth in football
#2: Within 1 point in overtime(Furman game) to going to the championship and the big dance. We did play UNCC in a post season game.
#3: Women's tennis greatly improved
#4: Women's golf won several tournaments, and played in a post season tournament.
#5: Women's volleyball was great and we loss in 5 sets at home in a post season match against Southern Mississippi.
#6: Men's and women's indoor and outdoor track record/Men 2nd, women 3rd.
Alan Beck will be turning the baseball around, and I HOPE women's basketball and women's soccer show marked improvement in 2023-2024.
GO CATS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Not saying you are wrong, and I understand you are being positive. I get that, but how many times in the last 47 years have we read similar posts, just to have our enthusiasm crushed the next season. WCU has had 47 years in the SoCon, with very little to show for it from the athletic department. And yes, I understand it's all about the $$$$, but it's time to crap or get off the pot, fund athletics at the level required to participate in the SoCon and DI athletics, or look for a new home where the athletic department can be competitive with the amount of $$$ the folks in the white building are willing to spend.

You have a point, but in both men & women, 3 of the top 4 teams are from private schools with large endowments. We talk about the differences in spending for state vs. private schools, and it shows in these results.
