The Terriers will travel to Cullowhee to face the Catamounts for Western's final three-game home series this weekend. The Terriers are coming off a sweep of the Citadel Bulldogs, placing them firmly in second place in the Red Division.

The Series: The Cats are 70-22 overall against Wofford, and have lost the last series played in Spartanburg, but won the last game of the series preventing the sweep. The Cats are 38-11 in games played in Cullowhee.
Wofford was picked to finish 3d in both preseason polls, and Hayes Heinecke, Jr. was selected as the preseason pitcher of the year. Junior shortstop Matty Brown, senior outfielder Colin Davis, & senior designated hitter Lawson Hill, were 1st team all-conference selections and junior 1st baseman John Dempsey was named to the second team.
In the 2021 season, the team returns four starters in the field along with 13 pitchers ... Overall 26 players returned to the team with 17 newcomers. Wofford is currently in the top 30 in walks (10th), stolen bases (2nd), sacrifice bunts (5th), on base percentage (26th), doubles (22nd), and stolen bases per game (4th). Wofford right-handed pitcher Elliot Carney was named the Southern Conference pitcher of the week, for all games from May 3-9.
Carney pitched a complete game 9-0 shutout over The Citadel on Sunday, which marked his second complete game shutout of the season. He is the first Terrier to have two complete nine-inning shutout wins in the same season since 2015. He limited the Bulldogs to no hits in the first 8 2/3 innings and struck out 10 without a walk, marking his third game this season with 10 or more strikeouts. Carney only allowed two baserunners in the game and leads the conference with 87 strikeouts over 71 innings pitched.
Wofford is batting .286 (third in the SoCon) with an ERA of 4.71 (second in SoCon) in 2021. The Terriers have three players hitting over .300 this season, led by Nolen Hester at .373 which ranks fourth in the league.
