Western Carolina head volleyball coach Karen Glover today announced the promotion of Chelsi Carter to associate head coach and the addition of Nick Collins as an assistant coach. Collins arrives in Cullowhee after working with the MidAmerica Volleyball Association (MAVA) in Louisville, Ky., as the head coach of 17 Elite, 18 Elite, and 12 Great White since the summer of 2020 in his second stint with the organization. He spent the spring of 2020 as a volunteer assistant coach at Bowling Green State University. He worked at MAVA for just over two years in his first stint from January 2018-February 2020 primarily working as an assistant coach of 17 Elite and 18 Select. Collins was a volunteer assistant coach at Eastern Illinois during the 2018-19 collegiate season where he oversaw recruiting efforts, positional training, and daily operations for the Panthers. Western Carolina opens the 2021 season in late August with the schedule to be announced in the coming weeks.

Western Carolina volleyball travels to its third nonconference tournament of the season this weekend as the Catamounts head to Richmond, Ky. for the Colonel Challenge hosted by Eastern Kentucky. The Catamounts open the tournament Friday at 10 a.m. against Eastern Illinois and face New Mexico State at 4 p.m. that afternoon. WCU and the host Colonels wrap up the tournament at 1 p.m. Saturday. WCU dropped its only other meeting against Western Illinois, suffering a 3-0 loss on Sept. 11, 1999. Eastern Kentucky holds a 2-1 lead in the all-time series with the Colonels winning the latest meeting 3-0 on a neutral court in 2014. WCU and New Mexico State square off for the first time.
