Today should be a little more revealing. Veterans throwing today. Yesterday the freshman pitchers got a taste of D1 baseball and got lit up. I heard the number of bombs was in double digits and balls were being hit hard. Please don't misconstrue this as we don't have any good incoming arms. I do not believe that to be the case at all. I'm just saying there is a learning curve.

As expected, the veteran pitchers faired better in game 2 but overall the hitters still had the advantage from what I hear. Time to get ready and head to Norman!

Now, do we have questionable pitching & good hitters? If you do not have good pitching you will not go anywhere. This is exactly what I told you when you first posted about the start of fall practice. Have you changed your mind about the future of this team?

This is exactly what I told you when you first posted about the start of fall practice. Have you changed your mind about the future of this team? No not at all. I was there both Thursday and Friday. There are 3 Freshman pitchers that have stood out in the first 3 weeks and also did in Thursdays intrasquad. All three sat 87-89 & 2 of three hit 90+. All three faced at least 3 of our better hitter. 6 of those 9 were struck out. 1 reached on a routine fly ball that was misplaced. Our veteran hitters continued to hit outside of the at bats above. Several Freshman swung the sticks well Thursday including several homeruns by them. There were also multiple pitchers that threw that were sophomores that did not do so well. We have a transfer from Furman that sat out last year that can flat swing it. The Freshman Burke can swing it as can Cerone. The three Freshman will fill a needed void on the staff. There are at least 2 others that have the velo to get it done at this point but we will see how they develop between now and January. Clay Cox is a juco arm that was being counted on however I believe he is limited at this point. Nick Hyde will assume a larger role. This team will have a very solid shot at winning the SoCon. Another note....hitters have the advantage right now. The Team lifts 3 times per week with a team lift Thursday at 6:00am and mid-day on Fridays, Pitchers throwing live abs on the same afternoon will not have all of their velo or natural movement on their fastballs. So all pitchers that threw Thursday and Friday were not at the top of their games

So all pitchers that threw Thursday and Friday were not at the top of their games Agree this team should be in the hunt to win the SoCon. Last years best hitting team in the SoCon and one of the best in the Nation (7th Scoring, 9th OB%, 13th BA). 2nd in the SoCon in fielding %. Lost all 3 weekend starters to injuries (still made the Championship game) and all 3 return. A lot to be hopeful about. Disagree that hitters have an advantage right now. First, the game is set up to give pitchers an advantage. Otherwise, you would see a lot of .500 hitters. Second, the pitchers have huge advantage at this point. Pitchers have been throwing pens for a month and should have the strike zone down. If they don't then that is a problem. Maybe their velo is down a little maybe not. Agree, the pitchers do not have their best stuff right now (at least I hope not). Timing is critical to a hitter, much more important than a couple mph to a pitcher. A lot of the hitters haven't seen live arm (BP isn't live arm) for 3 months until last Thursday. Even the kids that played summer ball have not seen live pitching in over a month so their timing is off. I don't think you will convince too many people, including the pitchers, the hitters had an advantage at last weeks scrimmages.

I don't think you will convince too many people, including the pitchers, the hitters had an advantage at last weeks scrimmages. You are dead wrong on pitchers. The pitchers did not throw for a month!!! They threw for 2 weeks which consisted of long toss, plyo wall work, short box and then a 25-30 pitch pen on those 2 Fridays. Last Tuesday they threw another short pen and stepped on the stadium field mound for the first time on Thursday & Friday. This was the first time that they have faced anyone in the box in months. The hitters have been in the cages facing Velocity since they got back on campus. You talk about timing, there is no lack of timing if the hitters are doing the right type of things in the cage & our kids work hard in the cage. Cage work isn't BP Velo. Good cage work is tee work, side toss, front toss and lots of velo work at shorter distance. BP is pre-game 65%-70% get your eye on the ball stuff. You also state that a few miles per hour doesn't matter or mean much. As a former D-1 player at a Power 5 school I can tell you that you are wrong. Kids that sit 90-91 in-season and are sitting 86-87 right now is advantage hitter all day any day.
