Having worked out first in individual groups and more recently in team settings since returning to campus this fall, the Catamounts turn their attention to a more competitive side of the fall, non-traditional schedule. Head coach Bobby Moranda, who is entering his 15th season in the dugout in Cullowhee, and the Catamounts will have three competition days this fall, including one exempt event against an international opponent. Fall play opens this weekend as W CU travels to the Big League Camp on Lake James in Marion, N.C. – a facility operated by Catamount baseball alum Donnie Suttles – to face the Louisville Cardinals this Sunday, Sept. 26, at 11 a.m. Suttles, a 12th-round draft pick of the Cleveland Indians in 1998, pitched for the Catamounts from 1996-98. WCU last faced Louisville in the 2018 regular season, dropping all three meetings with a pair of one-run games in Kentucky. W CU hosts the Ontario BlueJays, an all-star team from Canada, in Cullowhee on Friday, Oct. 1 at 6 p.m., at Childress Field / Hennon Stadium before concluding the competition portion of its fall at Foley Field in Athens, Ga., against the Georgia Bulldogs on Sunday, Oct. 10 at 4 p.m. The Catamounts took a doubleheader against Ontario back in the fall of 2014. WCU and Georgia have met 54 times in the regular season with WCU trailing, 18-36. The most recent meeting came back in 2016. catamountsports.com/news/2021/9/24/catamount-baseball-fall-update-friday-sept-24.aspx
