Samford - Samford place-kicker Zach Williams kicked a 38-yard field goal with 1:38 left in the game, and Wofford's attempt to tie the contest at the buzzer fell short as the Bulldogs held on for a crucial 27-24 Southern Conference road win over the Terriers Saturday afternoon at Gibbs Stadium. Samford improves to 3-3 overall and 2-2 in Southern Conference play with the win. Wofford falls to 1-5 overall and 0-4 in league games. The win was Samford's seventh-straight victory in the series with Wofford.
Chattanooga - "The Rail" is staying home. Devonnsha Maxwell recorded a school record 4.5 sacks while the running back duo of Tyrell Price and Ailym Ford accounted for 193 yards on the ground to lead the Chattanooga Mocs football team to a 21-16 win over the 10th-ranked ETSU Bucs on Saturday afternoon inside Finley Stadium. Chattanooga (3-3, 2-1 SoCon) keeps possession of the rivalry trophy for the third-straight year following the win while ETSU (6-1, 3-1 SoCon) suffers its first loss of the season. The win marked UTC's first win over a top 10 opponent since defeating Samford in 2017.
VMI - An Alex Oliver pick-six on the first play of the game set the tone early for VMI as the Keydets raced to a 24-0 halftime lead and eventual 45-7 victory over the host Mercer Bears Saturday evening at Five Star Stadium in Macon, Georgia. VMI is now in a three-way tie for first place in the SoCon race at 3-1 with ETSU and Mercer. With four league contests remaining, the Keydets will have two weeks to prepare for Samford on October 30 with a bye next Saturday.
Furman - Dominic Roberto rushed for a career high 132 yards and reeled off a 90-yard first half touchdown run to power Furman past The Citadel, 24-14, in Southern Conference football action Saturday evening at Paladin Stadium. The game marked the 101st meeting between the Paladins (4-2, 2-1 SoCon) and Bulldogs (2-4, 1-2 SoCon), the SoCon's two oldest football rivals.

Citadel head coach Brent Thompson absolutely blows a gasket after the game talking about the penalties to Jeff Hartsell

I watched some of a replay of the VMI/Mercer game, VMI scored twice in the first two minutes of the game, as a result of Mercer turnovers. In looking at the crowd in the stands, it's hard to believe there were over 7 thousand fans at the game.
