Samford’s men and women lead the Southern Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships after Saturday’s first day of competition at the VMI Corps Physical Training Facility. Three meet records fell on the day. Samford’s men totaled 57 points on day one to hold an eight-point lead over Western Carolina as they try to win their third straight championship. The Bulldog women enjoy a much wider margin, as they totaled 80.5 points, well ahead of second-place Furman’s 35, all of which were accrued in the final two events.
