Lady Cats are done in Asheville (to the tune of 39 points). I’m sure missing the good old days of Karen Middleton lately.

I wonder if our women's basketball woes are all because of coaching? In the last 30 years we have had 2 pretty good ones in Karen and then Kelly took us to new heights. The guy we have now has had winning records everywhere he has been but not at Western. I think being able to recruit top talent is our biggest problem and maybe it takes a special kind of Coach to attract top talent to Western. Coach has 2 years left on a 5 year contract and he has won more games each of the last 3 years although he only won 7 this year which means the first 2 years were worse. If we do eventually decide to get a new coach because we decide it is all a coaching problem then what kind of coach do we need to go after?

Women's lacross, beach volleyball, women's gymnastic, any thing but women's basketball. Women's basketball has historicallly been worse that football and that takes a lot to accompolish. Give up on it, as it's time for the embarressment to stop. We have two other schools in the conference that don't sponosr women's basketball, time to join them.

Don't forget, those other 2 SoCon schools that don't have women's basketball teams are VMI and The Citadel, with female enrollment at around 15 percent of the total enrollment or less. (But VMI does have women's soccer and track & field, and The Citadel has women's soccer, track and volleyball, so there is that.)

The make up of the school does not matter, fact is, two SoCon schools do not sponsor women's basketball, there are alternatives. WCU should follow that lead. VMI sponsores: woment track and field women's cross country women's rifle women's swimming and diving women's water polo The Citadel sponsors: women's cross country women's track & field women's golf women's soccer women's volleyball women's rifle

Swimming, diving and water polo aren't in the cards for us (unless Cullowhee Creek qualifies as a venue), but women's rifle? I know a few who could shoot your eye out, but I suspect they are a few years beyond NCAA eligibility! I kid, but I hear you...if we are gonna field a team in any sport, we need to at least be competitive.
