Well said....our baseball facilities are actually worse than all but maybe one SoCon school. Football is in the same boat. A new baseball coach with any experience and track record would demand significant improvements in facilities and budget. When we are winning consistently in the SoCon, there were only a couple fellow conference members who cared about baseball. It's a lot different now with Mercer and Samford in the league and more emphasis at Wofford and ETSU. I don't know why UNCG is down with a big budget and great facility.

I agree about the football facilities and baseball facilities, but thank goodness the leadership made a bold move, and we now have Kerwin Bell for our football program.
I wonder if the samething could happen with baseball. He might not be interested, but I miss Alan Beck. GO CATS

Why would anyone want to get rid of Alex Gary? He fired Coach Speir who needed firing and has hired 2 coaches Mens Basketball and Football who have not been around long enough to know if they will be successful or not. The first 2 years of his tenure have been during Covid and he has convinced the Chancellor to commit $60 million to athletics. As far as firing Moranda goes, his team played in the conference tournament championship game in 2021 and he has had teams win the regular season and the conference tournament in his tenure. He is also the winningest coach in Western’s baseball history. With the subpar facilities and recruiting budget, he has done a great job in his tenure. If we fired Moranda who would we get who is better to be our coach? I don’t think there is an A list of college baseball coaches lined up for the Western job. You might get a young assistant or a washed up head coach, but I think we would be hard pressed to find a coach that is a better fit for Western. You make some good points, some I agree with, some I don't. However I don't think you read what I wrote. Tell me please, where I said get rid of the AD. I did say, IF, the AD does not re-evaluate his coaches, THEN maybe the chancellor should re-evaluate her AD, that still does not mean fire him. As far as the $60 million, no one single penny of it been spent, has it? Has a fund raiser even been announced, much less started? Moranda is the winningest HC at WCU because he's been here something like 16 seasons, much less than the other successful WCU head baseball coaches. Many other coaches did a better job with those subpar facilities and even less of a recruiting budget. Speir was fired (and it was not the AD's doing, that came from the chancellor), and Bell was hired, who knew? You never know who you can hire, until you have an opening, period.

I agree with much of what has been said both supporting the coach and replacing him: But I don't think firing the baseball coach is the answer even thou he is not a very good coach at times....The problem is our pitching staff isn't getting better from year to year and that is on the coach....When you bring in a pitcher to close out the game and out of the first 5 batters he hits one and walks two and then gives up a homerun....Well that is just poor pitching and that seems to be our pitching staff this year....The other problem is all of the errors and to me that is just a poor baseball team made up of suspect players and again yes the coach does have a share of the blame but the players are expected to make those plays and at times they aren't....When you lose games the way we did against ETSU we have fundamental problems and I don't see it getting better until our team starts to play better sound baseball no matter what the facilities look like....Again I'm not supporting the coach because he has made some really bone head decisions and at times I think he might have fallen asleep in the dugout but we need players.....

Here is my 2 cents for what its worth. I have only been around this program for the past 4 years so very new to the program. There is no denying the facilities are far below average, really we have all seen better high school facilities. That definitely has an impact on recruiting, but I am not sure that is the biggest issue. From my time I see kids come in at a pretty high level and go backwards the longer they are in this program. Coach Mo and Sandefur need to take responsibility for this issue. I believe several of these pitchers were better in high school than as seniors in college. I really cant name one guy in my short time watching that I can say has shown great improvement. The new AD seems to be putting emphasis on facilities and changing the look. It may be time to for a change in the Whee.

Here’s hoping The Cats with bats bounce back from the ETSU series. Two of the 3 game series with ETSU could have gone either way. So we could have won 2 out of 3 easily. The 9th inning killed us in the first 2 games.

... So we could have won 2 out of 3 easily.... WOW Did you watch the same games I did? Guess what, it matters not if your score the runs in 1st, 5th, 7th or 9th - they still count. I guess you forgot the team with the most runs - WIN. We could play ETSU 10 times, and the Cats would win no more than 2 games.

I will stand by 2 of the games were very competitive where we led and those games could have gone either way. Still a lot of games to play and anything can happen. GO CATS!!!

Stand by anything you'd like, but Western does not, I repeat does not have the pitching to beat ETSU. Maybe 2 out of ten games, they might out hit them sufficiently to overcome poor WCU pitching. Yes, there is still a lot of games to play, and a lot of games to lose.
