Western Carolina welcomes nine teams to the Catamount Athletic Complex this weekend as it hosts the annual Catamount Classic on Friday and Saturday. The meet begins on Friday at 1 p.m. with the men's pole vault as a busy field event day will also see the men's and women's hammer, men's and women's javelin, men's and women's long jump, and women's pole vault competitions. Track events start at 4 p.m. with the men's 110-meter hurdle prelims and wrap up with the men's 5k run.

Western Carolina combined to score four individual event wins on the first day of the Catamount Classic Friday at the Catamount Athletic Complex as both the men's and women's teams captured two event wins apiece. Javell Brown led a top-four finish sweep for the Catamounts in the men's long jump as he took the win with a leap of 7.25 meters (23'9.5"). Javon Brown was second with a mark of 7.18 meters (23'6.75"), followed by Tyler Rodriguez in third at 7.12 meters (23'4.5") and Kaleb Ambrose in fourth with a new personal best mark of 6.75 meters (22'1.75"). Owen Barr's new personal best leap of 6.46 meters (21'2.5") earned him a ninth-place finish. Charles Cooley won the men's pole vault by clearing a height of 4.55 meters (14'11"). Thomas Martin finished in second place with an outdoor personal best mark of 4.45 meters (14'7.25"), followed by Jonathan Lehe in third place as he cleared a height of 4.35 meters (14'3.25"). Martin was also the runner-up in the men's javelin with a throw of 47.06 meters (154'4"). Chesley Kinney earned a sixth-place finish with a mark of 42.94 meters (140'10").
