The Baseball Cats might have played their best series in a couple seasons. Mercer is one of the top teams not only in the SoCon, but in the southeast as well. Today's 11 inning win might have been the best game I've watched in quite some time. The game had everything. Zach Franklin's performance on Friday, Zebby Matthews in relief Saturday and today (he looked like he did last season...gutty performance today) the clutch hitting, mostly solid defense and base running reminded me of our teams in the Jack Leggett, Keith LeClair and Todd Raleigh coaching days. Maybe this team is peaking at the right time. The series at Wofford this coming weekend is a huge one.

I've got to give the Cats their due when they earn it. This was a great 4 games for the Cats, the thumping of Upstate and the sweeping of the series with Mercer was excellent baseball. The Cats were hitting this week and the pitching looked very good. Hoping they turned the corner this week.

I believe we have now won 3 series in a row now. VMI, Citadel and now a sweep of Mercer. We have improved but Wofford will be tough and we will have to bring our A+ game. I did not expect that we we would sweep an excellent team like Mercer with 35 wins. I was thinking we might win one game this weekend against Mercer. Wofford hates us because of our tournament sweep of them last year which eliminated them from the tournament. The Cats have got to have a lot of confidence now. They could have just given up after ETSU and Samford, but we made adjustments and got better.

Good week. Gotta give Mathews game ball today. 5 innings 2 hits and no runs and 7k. Just dont get him hurt.
Talk about hurt, the series dropped Mercer 23 spots down to 33 and put them in bubble territory especially since only game left to help is vs Georgia Southern. Think Western gained about 44 spots so 5 more weeks and might crack top 100.
After saw the video of Ketterman going yard and flippin his bat basically at Mercers dugout had to go check play by play to see if he got nailed. Guess he must watch all these clips of bat flips.

Unbelievable weekend all right. Agree with other comments. I was thinking we might win one this weekend. Then after 2 blowouts, I was confident we would get smoked on Sunday by a Mercer team that had beaten Florida State and Georgia Tech in mid-week games earlier this year.
Hope Zebby Matthews' arm holds up for the rest of the season. 43 pitches on Saturday and then come back with 81 more on Sunday is un-heard-of. That's kinda the way B. J. Nobles was used on the 2016 tournament champion team. He had been the Closer all year. Final day of tournament and we had to beat Mercer twice. B. J. closed the early game with about 20 pitches and then started the last game. Pitched deep into the 9th inning and threw over 120 pitches.
Hope we have something left for a challenging weekend down at Wofford. We'll see....

Going to Sox game Tues and plan on going to see the boys Wed since couldnt go to MTSU right up road. Im stilled banned from tourney since only 2 years missed in what over 20+ years we won in 2003 and what 2016. Listening to games this weekend and the man Hooker mentioned the 85 inning game vs Elon. Think that game and year or two before the CofC game that went to extras but no where as long as Elon but more stressful took years of life out me. Lol. Going off memory here but two things remember most are CofC had bases loaded no outs in their bottom half in extras and some how we got out of and other Hefley hitting what was 2 run jack in 76 inning and Elon tied it in btm half. There was probably maybe 50 people in stands for both. Love some ball Wont name names but #26 was supposed to meet me there but some excuse kids have darn orchestra 🤨 lol EDIT: i had to look up and was 2010 vs CofC. Brandon Johnson was unreal that night. One best performances seen. I got it assbackwards we had em loaded no outs and Hembree who been in big leagues for awhile pitched out of it. I was screaming and yelling and calling you know who about every 5 min keeping him up lol |
