Crickets Crickets Crickets etc. You’re seriously going to blame Moranda for an injury? Wait-I guess ‘personal attacks’ on the head coach don’t warrant a 🔒 Enjoy tonight’s loss, as I’m sure you are “fans”. Maybe I missed something, who got injured? I think the only way to change the way Moranda coaches is to let the RPI Rankings establish the Conference Baseball Tournament seedings. Therefore, this would eliminate the throw away games during the week. This system would help the overall SoCon & maybe help get more than one team in the NCAA Tournament. NCAA pays a lot of attention to the RPI Rankings when it comes to seedings in their tournament. I also think that a person should look at the average wins per year of a Coach at WCU & this would eliminate how longevity skews the overall success of a Coach. Tom Brady is a good example of this in the NFL. The major issues that I have with Coach Mo is his inability to recruit a number of good pitchers & his inability to effectively Coach them. Year after year WCU has had major issue with lack of depth in the pitching staff. This year is no exception. Pitching is the name of the game in baseball & this has been Moranda’s Achilles Heel for many years at WCU.

I'm not attacking anyone here, but I think it's time for a change in the baseball leadership.
I don't need to list any of the current baseball staff's shortcomings, as we see them in most games.
I always pull for the Cats to win, every time a Catamount team takes to the field, or court. Every. Time.
But, I will not ignore poor coaching and/or unprepared players.
Go Catamounts.

In my opinion, it is very difficult for Coach Mo to get the caliber of pitcher needed to compete at a high level because of lack of funding and lack of updated facilities. On the game yesterday, did you notice the Wofford facilities. When we go to UNCG next week take a look at what they have. Why would a kid from Raleigh or Charlotte come to Western to pitch when they can stay closer to home and play in a nicer facility. Baseball arguably in the past has been our most successful sport, but the past Administrations have treated it like a red headed step child and not kept the facilities updated. At the same time, many programs have upgraded their facilities and recruiting budgets while we stayed the same or went backwards. Also, there are many schools like Kennesaw and Mercer as examples that used to not field a D1 baseball team that now do and they have new updated facilities and larger budgets. For years Western Carolina administrations have reduced support to all athletic teams as the Catamount Club giving has continued to rise. We especially saw this during the Belcher years so Western’s Athletic budget would stay the same year over year because each additional dollar brought in by the Catamount Club would mean a reduction by the Western Carolina leadership of a dollar. The numbers prove this. That is why I call BS when the leadership acts surprised and say they don’t understand why athletics is not improving. We have justifiably fired many coaches but we have fired some good coaches that would have won if they had been given adequate facilities and funding by the University. It is the age old cliche about putting your money where your mouth is. It is all about the $$$ in college athletics and sports is NOT a priority at WESTERN CAROLINA UNIVERSITY. That in my opinion has more to do with baseball not being as competitive at WCU as it used to be. The key word is opinion and I respect your knowledge of the game and your insight and I know you have forgotten more about baseball than I will ever know so maybe you are correct and all we need is a change in coaching and we will be back on top again.

Flacat, I appreciate your comments & the lack of facility Updates. The lack of Athletic Funding is a fact & it permeates throughout the Athletic Program at WCU. Until the University start floating bonds to update facilities, we will get struggling sports team. Good to hear from you and I have mainly been reading the mail & not commenting on remarks on this board since Football Season. Tell your lovely wife hey for me. Hope to see you during Football Season. Take care of yourself.

Thanks 1911 for the info. I hate to hear that because he has been pitching well this season. I’m not that surprised because I thought he was throwing a lot of curves & that can take its toll on your elbow. I hope this injury will not keep him out of the SoCon tourney & it is not his elbow or shoulder.

I think my post was pretty clear. If you need elaboration on what I posted, you'll never understand anyway. I think I’m a pretty smart person, but let’s pretend I’m an idiot. Please elaborate, both on your response to FLCATAMOUNT’s post, as well as your comment about not using players names (because no one previously mentioned any player by name). If you’re unwilling to elaborate, then I’ll assume you’re unable to. I think you need to get off Jerry’s back. He runs a great board & he is a good man. I think running your mouth to him is not a wise thing for you to do & it does not win brownie points with anyone on this board. With your engaging temperament, it sounds like you might have a son on the team.

Always remember that I thoroughly enjoyed watching your sons play for the Catamounts. Tell your lovely wife hello for me and your boys as well. Yes sir the boys are doing great. All are working big boy jobs now lol. Caleb is married to former WCU soccer player, Kasey Cooke now a Robinson. Caleb took over the head baseball coaching spot at Eastern Alamance and led them back to he playoffs for the first time in a while. Kasey finished and is working as a physical therapist and doing well. Luke is doing well at his job and just bought a house and moved out. Andrew is working for the city of High Point in the parks & rec department. He is engaged to former Catamount soccer player Sheridan Caudle. I look for them to set a date soon as she has moved back down this way and accepted a job in Clemons as a middle school teacher. My wife and I are patiently waiting for some grandkids lol and following wcu baseball. Hope you and yours are doing well too Jim!
