Jim...I remember when Larry Stanberry came to Blackie (Coach Blackburn) initially to play baseball, but after four years in the Marine Corps, he found out he had lost his edge and just wanted to be around baseball and involved. As you probably remember, he became Blackie's righthand man doing things from dragging the infield, to laundry. to scouting...whatever. He graduated in three years and immediately got into the insurance business where he eventually made a small fortune. He still has special feelings about Catamount Baseball and a great supporter.

Nice video. Coach Moranda accomplished a lot, represented Western well and is a class act. He will be missed.

His legacy will be determined by the tributes he gets from ex-players and asst coaches not by what fans, alum, and parents think or say. He had the opportunity to impact the lives of 100’s of young men. Let’s see what they have to say.

My boys do not do social media much but I know all 3 think a lot of Coach Mo and I know for sure Luke has actually called him when he found out. So just because you may not see anything from my boys I KNOW they respected and loved playing for Moranda.

I am sure that some players will say good things and others will not say good things. By the nature of the job, I am sure any head coach at the college level will have supporters and detractors. A head coach makes decisions based on the abilities of players and all players want to play. Some will get playing time and others will not. So if you get to play, you probably love the head coach. Otherwise, not so much. I think that his legacy will be a combination of all stakeholders. There are also people that have already decided that Moranda is the only reason we are not winning championships every year and they already think that Moranda has no redeeming qualities based on the posts that they have made here over the past several months.

You post junk, even when you don't know what you are posting about. No on ever said or even implied that Moranda had no redeeming qualities. Yes, some of us felt it was time for a change, and it was/is time. However that's not a putdown on the man, maybe he could have done more with more support from the administration, but that was not, and is not forthcoming. Baseball needs more upgrades in facilities than any other sport, but nothing is on the way. I do thank and appriciate all the updrages that Moranda was able to accompolish in his years at WCU, it's too bad the administrations in charge during his tenure at WCU did not help him.
