Another typical Saturday for SoCon Officiating. I have said for years that SoCon officiating is the worst in all of the NCAA. Just come to any Western ballgame on any Saturday and you will see it. This is more evidence of this fact. Obviously, the officials wanted Samford to win and they changed the momentum on purpose which is blatant. If you do not believe me, read the article and watch the video of the play. Why else would the conference reprimand them? Passes the duck test. footballscoop.com/news/college-football-instant-replay-playoffs-furman-samford-southern-conference-fcs

I think it was more due to incompetence than anything else... and they were reprimanded for incompetence.

Agree they were reprimanded for incompetence, but my observation has been after watching SoCon officiating for several years that SoCon refs are terrible and sometimes show bias. Come to a Western home game. We don’t even get the benefit of the doubt in home games. I saw 2 horrible cals and one horrible no call just this past weekend in the Western game. One was overturned on review, but why do we as fans see so many bad calls every Saturday? I see incompetence every weekend but this one at Furman could not be ignored.

I think we are lucky we didn't have that head ref in Cullowhee this past weekend. The reversal that gave us the INT was in my opinion pretty similar to the play in the Samford/FU game. If we had the same guy, that would have been a completion and forward progress for a VMI first down I have been watching a lot of SoCon games in addition to ours this season, and the officiating is garbage in all of them!

To be honest it isn't just the SoCon but the ACC has had some terrible officiating this year as well...The refs have gotten to the point where they are flag happy and I'm afraid they will start determining the outcome of games if not monitored and or reprimanded like what happened with some of the SoCon refs this week....
