The Cats opened its 2023 team practice Friday afternoon at Childress Field / Hennon Stadium. WCU opens with 10 of its first 12 games at home, hosting Akron on Opening Weekend, Feb. 17-19. Western Carolina opens the 2023 season with a four-game home series against Akron Feb. 17-19 as a part of playing 10 of its first 12 games at home. The bulk of the home schedule is anticipated to be broadcast on ESPN+ (paid subscription required) with a complete broadcast schedule to be announced in early February. All told, nearly half of the Catamount roster has turned over from a season ago with 21 returning letterwinners and 19 newcomers including seven freshmen and 12 transfers. Heading into the start of the 2023 season, WCU and head coach Alan Beck will hold an intrasquad scrimmage on Sunday, Feb. 5, at Childress Field / Hennon Stadium beginning at 11 a.m., which will be followed by a free "Little Catamount Clinic" for youth ages 6-to-12 (parents must be present) set for 2:30 p.m. After the clinic, participants can meet the 2023 Catamount squad with an autograph session.
