Conference Carolinas (D-II): Conference Carolinas dipped into Georgia to pick up Shorter University and, with them, re-launched football after a 50-year absence.
On Thursday, Conference Carolinas announced a new member and, with it, a new sport.
Shorter University will become the Division II league's 15th all-sports member starting with the 2024-25 academic year, which brings the conference to six football-playing institutions.
“This is a huge announcement for Conference Carolinas,” said commissioner Chris Colvin. “It has been a priority for us to find a way to bring football back to Conference Carolinas, and the addition of Shorter allows us to align with our member institutions to sponsor the sport. We have a great deal of work ahead of the 2025 season, but all of us in Conference Carolinas could not be any more excited. We look forward to working with all of our member institutions as Conference Carolinas football grows and thrives in the years to come.”
Here is the Conference Carolinas roster:
Barton College Wilson, N.C.
Chowan Murfreesboro, N.C.
Erskine College Due West, S.C.
UNC Pembroke Pembroke, N.C.
North Greenville Tigerville, S.C.
Shorter Rome, Ga.

No, they started as a jr college in 1988, then to NAIA in 1994 (became 4 year college), then moved to NCAA Div II in 2001.

I remember the glory days of the old "Carolinas Conference" in the 50s and 60s. The rivalries between Western Carolina, Appalachian State and Lenoir-Rhyne were special. Unfortunately, I don't see those kind of rivalries reaching that level again because of the nature of college athletics today, geography and the waning interest of college students (outside the power 5 leagues and a few on the next level).

Steve, a perfect addition to the Carolina's Conference since Shorter has been offered is NAIA power Reinhardt University.
Reinhardt started their football program under Drew Cronic's father, and it did great. Drew's father retired and it was turned over to his son Drew, presently the head coach at Mercer, and when he left Rick Miller's son James Miller is the head coach.
Shorter and Reinhardt, as well as the other teams in the CC would make for great competition in D2 for the Gulf South Conference.
Heard anything about football commitments this weekend, as Wednesday is National signing day for football?

They are keeping everything somewhat quiet so as to make a big splash next Saturday. I always look forward to the event as it gives me a Catamount Football fix until Spring Practice. Bennett Judy, the QB from Simpsonville, SC is here and impressing the coaching staff. Will not know a lot about the other guys who are here until Saturday. Sat with Rick Miller at a basketball game a couple weeks ago and he indicated that Jamie might be ready to make a move up the coaching ladder.
