The budget numbers do show what I have been saying for years and that is that Athletics is not a priority at Western Carolina. We are next to last in spending in the SoCon, just ahead of VMI and 3rd from last in the state of NC ahead of UNCA, NC Central and NC A&T. The numbers make the point. I accept the fact that Athletics is not a priority at Western Carolina. I don’t accept it when the administration does not clearly state that Athletics is not a priority at Western, because based on the numbers and the facts, it is obvious that Athletics is not a priority at Western Carolina. We have the bare minimum financial support to remain in the SoCon and NCAA division 1 so that the administration can say that we are D1. That is the only reason we are in D1. It is not so that we can compete for championships or to provide the best experience for our student athletes like it should be. The charade and the double talk by the administration will continue because they cannot tell us the truth because the truth paints them and the school in a bad light.

Say what you will, but Asheville puts out some pretty good athletic programs on just $8 million per year. Always excellent men & women's basketball, very improved baseball, and usually beat WCU in most of the olympic sports. Maybe Cone is a much better AD than I ever thought she was... They do not have to shell out big bucks for a Football Program.
