ASUN-WAC’s ‘Primary Focus Is To Become A Single-Sport FCS Conference’ But Also Wants To Be ‘Aspirational’ In FBS PursuitThe ASUN and the WAC continue to seek forming a single-sport FCS football conference ahead of the 2023 season. The two formed new FCS football-playing conferences in January of 2021. They combined in the fall of 2021 in their first seasons to earn instant auto-bid status into the FCS playoffs, calling it the AQ7. It was expected to be a one-year partnership before they split and had their own AQs in 2022. But due to realignment and losing members, the joint league returned in 2022 for one auto-bid. Now, the ASUN-WAC is trying to form a legit football-only league, similar to the Missouri Valley Football Conference. Membership in 2023 includes ASUN members Austin Peay, Central Arkansas, Eastern Kentucky, and North Alabama; and WAC members Abilene Christian, Southern Utah, Stephen F. Austin, Tarleton State, and Utah Tech. The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley is expected to join in 2025 during its first season as a football program. herosports.com/fcs-asun-wac-focus-conference-bzbz/

Would be great if the SoCon could bring in EKU and North Alabama. That would bring conference football games to 10 and still leave room for 1 nonconference game.

I'm sure we could get both of them, but it would require adding two privates as well, also the drawback on EKU is they are looking to go FBS as soon as possible. When they got an invite, they would be gone, not sure we want that...

Of course not, however, you know there would not be enough votes to bring in two public schools. After all, while there is 6 public schools out of the 10 members, the two military schools usually vote with the privates in membership matters. They would not vote in two publics without adding private schools as well, of course this is only my opinion, but it's pretty much based on history. I figure you would only get 4 votes to add only EKU & UNA (WCU, ETSU, UNCG & UTC), with everyone else voting no (6). Again, just my opinion.
