The Catamounts will host the 2023 Southern Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships on May 8-9 at the Catamount Athletic Complex. Day two of the conference-champion crowning meet will be broadcast on ESPN+  |

It looks like we are falling lower and lower in the standings each year.... It used to be, WCU would be first or at least second in these first day results... it's no longer happening...

It’s gone down hill since we lost the coach 4 or 5 years ago. It comes down to recruiting, I am sure. Hopefully we will not let it hit rock bottom before we make a change but our history says we will hit the bottom before we do something.

Paul Jones, Danny Williamson, and Cal McDaniel made Western Carolina the superpower of the Carolina's Conference and the SoCon, but now we are only very average.
I know that Paul Jones is still very supportive of his alma mater, and I am not sure what Danny is doing, and Cal is at Kennesaw State, but, possibly using Paul and Danny as resources ever been considered, or is the philosophy of the University to not consider having any relationships with former coaches? I forgot, thank goodness our baseball program is and has kept a relationship with Jack Leggett and I think Coach Beck has reestablished a relationship with Coach Raleigh.
I hope that our softball, baseball teams are successful in their tournaments coming up in the next few days.

Since so few scholarships are allowed in T&F, it has to be the strength of the head coach that brings in DI-level athletes to the programs. As stated above, we've had those type of coaches in the past, and it is quite obvious that Rod Tiffin at Samford fits that mold as well. Since 2013, his teams have dominated T&F in the SoCon. Furman's Cross Country coach has field CC teams that have won their 10th straight men’s and women’s titles at the 2022 Southern Conference Cross Country Championships.
These are the kind of coaches WCU needs if they are to ever resume their past glory days in Track & Field.

Sounds like we need a new coach because things were great when the current head coach took over and now they are not great. Just saying, why wait until we are at the bottom?
