Western Carolina men's basketball held its first official team practice for the highly-anticipated 2023-24 season on Ingles Court at the Ramsey Center on Tuesday evening. "The biggest thing early on is keeping everybody healthy," explained third-year head coach Justin Gray. "We want to go, we want to play fast, and we want to be a physical team – but we want to be healthy as well."

I'm very excited about this season. I really thought if we were able to pull out that thriller to Furman in OT that we had a good chance to win the tournament. With the returning of Woolbright, Jackson, Jones Jr and now the addition of Robertson, I feel our back court is experienced and has good depth. All our top scorers came from this group minus Claude who we are going to miss. The front court is entirely new except for Pelote and Granger. We brought in a lot of height through the transfer portal and one true freshman. Lampten is 6-11 and has a killer wingspan. I don't know how much of a scorer he will be but he will be a good on the defensive/offensive glass and shot protector. I think Cornelius Williams could be a player to watch. I studied his high school film and I really like his game. This team has the potential to make it to the Socon Championship.

I am looking forward to this season! Let's just hope we aren't like UNC last year. Bring all these guys back and just fall on our faces. That certainly won't happen but that's all I can think about as a UNC fan.
