I hope they have $5 million. They do. Remember, that's the flagship university of the University of Maine system (8 universities) with an endowment of $444.9 million (2022). Athletic Budget of $20,219,514.00 (football budget: $4,523,784.00)

Your comment hit it right on the head on why they want to move up. They feel they are better and I don't mean record wise compared to the rest of the CAA esp they hate the new teams that were added ex: bryant, Howard, etc...

This sent me to Google thinking I never realized that U of Delaware was part of the University of Maine system! You caught that, huh? I have no idea why I had Maine on the brain when I answered this. I'll try again. UD is the largest university in Delaware, with approximately 18,200 undergraduate and 4,200 graduate students. It is a privately governed university that receives public funding for being a land-grant, sea-grant, and space-grant state-supported research institution. Deleware's endowment is $1.78 billion (2022) Athletic budget is $47 million, - Football: the UD football program paid out $7,727,682 in expenses and made $8,001,726 in total revenue. That is, the program raked in a net profit of $274,044 for the school. So, they can afford the $5 million.
