Just a matter of time until he's gone. Hope we don't lose both of the Bell's this year.

I imagine Kerwin isn't leaving until he wins a SoCon Title.

I imagine Kerwin isn't leaving until he wins a SoCon Title. I don't think Kerwin will leave this year and due to his age may just retire here. Kade may try to test the waters elsewhere but hopefully not this year. If Kade leaves though, Kerwin will likely become the HC/OC. Hopefully, Kerwin and Gary have something in the works to let Kade become HC when Kerwin retires (down the road) and maybe that and working alongside his dad will keep him here. (Fingers Crossed!!!)

We should do whatever it takes to keep Kerwin here now that we finally have reason to be positive about the football program and are seeing actual results. It's quite refreshing from all the stock excuses we heard for years.

I’m afraid either or both Bells may receive some long looks from Florida once they fire Furman guy in a few weeks.

I’m afraid either or both Bells may receive some long looks from Florida once they fire Furman guy in a few weeks. I doubt Kerwin goes anywhere until he feels like he has accomplished what he set out to do here....rebuild this football program and win championships. After that we may have trouble keeping him but as I said before, we should do everything possible to keep him here for a long time. If we earn the first playoff appearance since '83 that might even call for a bonus/contract extension. We did for the last coach after a miserable record so why not reward success?

I agree with some sort of bonus/contract extension, especially in the case of a playoff berth. The body of work speaks well. Bell took a one win team to 4 wins his first year, then 6 last year, now 7 so far this year. I would be nice if we could give more pay to the assistants to keep them on board and also extend the contract out to provide more security/stability. As usual, I'm sure money is tight and WCU will always seem to have that challenge.

I can’t imagine any head coach that doesn’t have bonus items in their contract for things like conference championships, playoff appearances, playoff wins, and so on. WCU is paying coaches more than ever, including the assistants who also had other duties removed to free them up to concentrate solely on coaching. That is not to say we offer enough to keep guys from jumping to other jobs (especially assistant pay vs what coordinators make), but it is a whole lot better in the last several years than any time in history.
Contract extensions are tricky and will be a hot topic on the board. The last extension to Spier was ridiculous, but he got extensions/raises earlier on when he won 7 games multiple times. I completely agree we have made a very good hire and 8 wins and a playoff birth would have me wanting to do more to keep coaches. The difference now is we can see progress and the future continuing to be bright vs just hoping under previous guys.
