I’m afraid either or both Bells may receive some long looks from Florida once they fire Furman guy in a few weeks. Kerwin is loved in Florida but he has never been a head coach at the FBS and Florida will likely not hire him as an HC without proven FBS HC experience. They may try to convince him to be an OC at some point but before he would get that call from Florida, he would have to have years of proven FBS HC experience at a G5. Now, a school like FIU might would try to check his interest (and I know some ECU fans seem to have taken interest in him as some want Mike Houston fired) but we need to do whatever it takes to keep him here. The good news for Kerwin is I think he likes it here, he does not need the money and essentially all the teams in the FCS have a realistic chance to be a National Champion. In the FBS if your not SEC, Big 10, Clemson there really is not much of a path. But I think with Kerwin being 58 and 59 by next season, it may keep him here. Also, why havent coaches like Chris Hatcher left by now? Either they love coaching FCS or the FBS schools that are interested are not worth leaving for. Hopefully, that its the same for Kerwin and he stays and when he retires he will be considered up there with Bob Waters as legends at WCU.

Hatcher is probably a good study with coaching and reputation. He has a reputation for highly offensive teams that lack much defense and his record bears it out. Yes, he had great success at Valdosta St, (seems any decent coach has there) where he was 76-12. But he was only 18-15 at Georgia Southern, 27-30 at Murray St and 56-43 at Samford. Take out 2022 and he's 45-41 at Samford. So, once the competition stepped up his record didn't hold up. Add to that, he's only produced 3 post season years in 17 since moving up from D2 ball. Add to that, his average since moving to FCS has been 6-5. Take out last year's 11-2 and he's 5-5. Then there's the hype, he can create some hype that isn't backed up to the same level often because his teams has soft, at best, defenses. Some might even say poor defenses. Sure the flashy offense pulls in fans and donors but eventually they sour because his teams end up being average at best.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I thought Coach Bell has a $ 263,000 base plus phone and a auto...I also thought I saw somewhere he gets incentives for numbers of wins in a season, Conference champs, and if Western goes to the playoffs....Is this true?

www.scribd.com/document/508754861/Kerwin-Bell-Head-Football-Coach-2021-Signed-4-27-21Going to that site unless you sign-up for an account is a pain to wait for ads to load/finish. So here are the highlights from his 2021 contract. No idea if there have been any changes to it Base pay of $262,500 (I have found other mentions when searching that he made more than $300k as the head coach of Jacksonville and as the OC at USF) $7200/year car allowance $720/year mobile phone allowance $20k for moving expenses Several different $1k bonuses for how the team does academically (3.1 GPA, NCAA GSR > 90%, NCAA APP > 985, etc.) $5k for winning the SOCON $1k for being SOCON Coach of the Year $2k for a playoff bid $2k for reaching the 2nd round $3k for reaching the quarterfinals $4k for reaching the semis $5k for reaching the championship $25k for winning the FCS championship Max incentive pay is capped at $51k in any given year $7500 for 7 or more wins in year 1 $7500 for 8 wins in years 2, 3, 4, and 5 $10k for any 9+ win season The contract also shows that he was allocated a total of $725,000 as the salary pool to hire his staff. That number is reviewed annually. There is also this clause in the contract: With a playoff bid and possible 1st round win, I'd guess he is looking at $18k or more in bonuses this season as that would give us at least 9 wins.
