The only pleasure today, is reading the meltdown on the Furman board. Was Furman really trying to win that game? And I am not being sarcastic. Were they playing their starters? You can't be serious? You actually think that Furman wanted to not win all their FCS games, and chance giving up the #2 seed? The number two seed puts them in the opposite bracket from #1 seed SDSU. So, you think they would intentionally risk all that, not to mention getting beat by a 1 win team?

I had the same thought for a fleeting minute, and might've even posted about it. Then I looked at the injury report, and thought about the risk of losing that seed.

I don't expect Furman to hit the transfer portal hard - that is not the kind of program they have (not saying that is good or bad). Their young backup QB got some valuable experience, and they have some younger skill players that I am sure will be good. Replacing Huff and Roberto will be tough, but I would expect them to have a physical team and to plug holes with some strategic grad students again. Hitting the transfer portal "hard" is a relative term, but they have 7 grad transfers from other schools, and 1 each transfer as RS Senior & RS Junior on their current roster. So, as much as they like to give the impression they "home grow" their players, I see increased use of the portal by the Furman coaches, especially the grad transfers.

No doubt I agree - they use the grad transfer a good bit. Of course Huff was also a transfer (from Presbyterian no less). In these times everybody has to use it at least to some degree. I think now that Bell has turned the roster over we will be pretty strategic going forward.
