Chattanooga's Athletics Director is on the committee that made the selections. The FCS committee is made of of an AD from all the FCS conference.

It has to be politics. We are better than Chattanooga. They also probably look at injures and wager the odds of a competitive game. If Gonzalez is really cooked for the year. There's no way we could play competitiveley. I noticed UTC’s qb didn’t play yesterday

Tough pill. UTC is getting a ton of credit for playing Furman so tough. I don’t think our loss to VMI is any worse than their loss to North Alabama. We beat them, they beat Mercer. I have to assume the committee felt their win against Mercer is better than any win we had (including beating the Mocs at their place). At 7-4, I honestly didn’t expect either of us to be in.

Just goes to show how valuable yesterday was. A win and we were in. All the 6-2 teams from the SoCon would have been in.

Bottom line...Chattanooga and Mercer tied for second place in the Southern Conference. We finished in fourth place.

Mercer got hosed.......while UTC got rewarded
If Mercer wins, they get to go to South Dakota State
If Chatt wins, a rematch with Furman. I know which one I'd rather be

You have to look at both teams in the 1st round match-up. Mercer has the much easier game, as I’d bet APSU was in the conversation as a seed (9-2 after losing their first 2 games - one to Tennessee in a relatively competitive matchup). So sure - the 2nd round looks easier, but in the committee’s eyes my guess is they are rewarding APSU with a relatively easier 2nd round game more than they are punishing Mercer/rewarding UTC. I would expect from 1-24 APSU was considered higher than either team.

Please see post above from retired cat. None of what you say had anything to do with it. The Chatt AD is the SoCon rep on the selection committee. Plain and simple politics and the Chatt AD has no scruples. He lobbied for his team and threw Western under the bus. We beat Chatt 2 years in a row. Chatt will lose big to AP.
