Fox, ESPN, and Warner Bros. Discovery are teaming up to create a joint streaming platform to share sports assets, according to multiple reports. The service will be available to ESPN+, Hulu, and Max subscribers, and it's expected to launch later this year.

Playing devils advocate. This might be a good thing that ultimately brings down the price of cable. I know a lot of people that are tired of paying over $100 a month for cable and the main reason they don’t cut the cord is because they can’t get ESPN and Fox Sports and other sports Chanel’s without cable. With this new plan, folks can now get ESPN and Fox Sports without cable. I could see people eliminating cable and just streaming the channels they want. This could force the Spectrums, Comcast’s and Xfinities, etc. of the world to reduce their prices to keep customers.

Playing the reverse side of that - I cut the cord several years ago. Since then, I have jumped around to various streaming providers for my "main" TV content (Hulu with Live TV, YouTube TV, Fubo, etc.). I also had various other streaming services like Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV, etc. The first moves have been the prices going up if you don't want to watch commercials - to me the biggest draw for streaming is that I can watch when/how I want without all the commercials, so that is now going away unless I am willing to pay more than I did for cable. The next move that is now happening is that we will start seeing these kinds of parternships with "bundles" (the exact term that people cringed at with cable services).
At the end of the day, I like that I have more control to choose what channels and content I want. But the price when you add up all your services along with paying separate for your Internet is right back up there to where my cable bill was. Now throw in that on many of the services I have commercials, and it seems like we are just going to be back in a similar place we were with cable. I certainly expect that the services will continue going up in price every year just like our cable bills always did.
All that said, I am sure I will be first in line to sign-up for the new sports service because I primarily watch movies and sports. It just means I will start rethinking some of the other services that I currently have.
