The spring window to enter the transfer portal began on April 16, and now it’s closing. Players must have entered the portal by May 1 to be able to transfer.
The spring window mostly affects men’s and women’s basketball players, but many football players enter the portal during this period as well.

What is crazy is now there are guys who transferred via the portal in January, may have gone to their new school and participated in Spring practice, and could theoretically enter the portal again after never really playing for the middle team in that mix. I get the idea is to shift some of the power to the athletes, but this kind of stuff is way over the top when you can transfer whenever you want and not have to sit out at all.
To give an example, the LB we just signed - if my Googling fu is correct, looks like he Redshirted at Keiser in 2019, played at Keiser in 2020 and 2021, played at Tusculum in 2022 and 2023, was on the Spring roster at Memphis for 2024 (meaning he was just there), and is now committed to us. Did he go to Memphis in the early portal window and is already coming to Cullowhee after being with the Tigers for a couple of months in the late portal window??? Per his Twitter - I mean X - feed, he committed to them January 19th of 2024 and committed to WCU on May 1st 2024.
Don't get me wrong - I hope he is an absolute baller and his connection with our DC makes sense. But that seems crazy to me.
