So I am sitting at a UNC Chapel Hill graduation right now and they started to play the UNC alma mater and I never noticed it but it starts out melody wise like WCU'S. It later transitions to their fight song just like ours does. Has anyone ever heard this?

A lot of schools use the same tune for their Alma mater song. It is called “Annie Lisle” written by H.S. Thompson in 1857.
The tune is used for the alma mater songs at many high schools and universities. Cornell University is believed to be the first school to have used this melody for its alma mater. Other universities that use it, many with similar lyrics, include the College of William & Mary, University of Alabama, Indiana University, Indiana State University, University of Missouri, University of Kansas, Syracuse University, University of Georgia, The Barstow School, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Vanderbilt University, Swarthmore College, Howard Payne University, The University of Akron, Lehigh University, and American University of Beirut.
Western Carolina also uses this song or tune for its alma mater song. That’s why most sound the same.
GO CATS!!!

I was sitting there with family and I leaned over and told them this sounds familiar
