I think schools like WCU, App State, ECU will continue to at least maintain their current enrollment numbers because of their curriculum and practical philosophy. UNCA had some strange majors.

Something that should have been done years ago will probably need to happen in the next few years, merger of institutions. Let's be honest here, is there really a need for 16 UNC system campuses?

Do you think WCU would be eaten by another university in the state or do you think WCU would eat UNCA and have a second campus or satellite campus in Asheville

Also how do other larger states do university systems? Do they have less schools in the system?

Have you been on the WCU campus in the last five years?
The State has invested a close t0 200 million in campus facilities over the last five years and earmarked another 200 million for the engineering school, Moore Hall renovation into a classroom building, double size of nursing program, etc.
Probably another 100 million in facilties upgrades like the steam plant, roads, new intramural fields with lights...on and on.
WCU is not going anywhere but UP!
Unfortunately, our state government...unlike Tennessee, South Carolina, Georgia, Virginia ... does not spend money to build or improve athletics facilities.

And your last part is such a shame because we need the upgrades in a bad way but don't have the money to do it

On the question about other state universities, Florida has 12 schools as part of their University system, but they range wildly from The New College (around 700 students) and FAMU (under 10k) to UCF (over 68k). I always expected FSU (42k) and UF (61k) to be the "big" schools, but I was shocked at the enrollment of schools like FAU (30k), FIU (55k), USF (almost 50k), etc. Even some of the schools who don't play football like UNF, Florida Gulf Coast, or UWF (who recently started) are as big if not bigger than WCU.
I think the state still pushes things towards UF, FSU, and UCF (probably in that order), but these others are still big schools that seem to be getting lots of funding, building lots of new buildings, upgrading athletic facilities, etc.
