I just received this email: Sent on behalf of Ben Pendry, Vice Chancellor for Advancement Dear friends, WCU will play The Citadel this Saturday, October 12 with spectators! We hope you will be able to join us for the Brunch and Learn from 9 a.m. - 10 a.m. in the Ramsey Center Hospitality Room and stay for the game. Good news, but Ben NEVER sends me any emails... LOL

Just saw this on the POTM FB page
UPDATE 10/8
The football game on Saturday, October 12th will proceed. However, due to the circumstances the marching band will not perform field shows.
We are asking for a volunteer pep band in the stands and I will be posting that sign-up form on the Membership page.
I realize that there are probably multiple feelings and reactions to this. Some are disappointed, some are relieved due to travel, etc.
However, all factors were considered in this decision and I firmly believe it is the only solution. I encourage any PotM member to please sign up if you are local or if you are willing and able to travel safely to be with us. The commitment time will be the game only. 2:30pm kick off.
Please be safe and take care of each other, and I very much look forward to having our band family back together again next Thursday, October 17 at 9:00am. More details to come.
Matt

From WCU:
Note from WCU ...
Western Carolina University is excited to invite spectators back to E.J. Whitmire Stadium / Bob Waters Field for this Saturday’s Southern Conference football game against The Citadel with kickoff at 2:30 p.m.
Before the season, Saturday’s game was chosen as WCU’s annual “Heroes Day” game—a moniker that seems even more appropriate given the region's recent struggles. Presented by Better Homes and Gardens Real Estate – Heritage, all active duty and veteran military personnel, as well as civil servants such as police, firefighters, and emergency medical personnel, receive free admission when presenting identification at the Whitmire Stadium ticket booths on game day. WCU and Catamount Athletics would also extend the same invitation to all utility workers in the area working countless hours assisting with the Hurricane Helene recovery efforts.
Western Carolina University is joining the relief efforts that have spawned around much of the nation in response to the tragedies in the mountains. Catamount Athletics in conjunction with Sylva Self Storage and U-Haul is promoting a “Fill the Truck” initiative this Saturday to fill the equipment truck the team uses for road game travel.
On Saturday (Oct. 12), in partnership with The Community Table in Sylva and Mountain Projects locally in both Jackson and Haywood County, WCU will collect various need-based donations of non-perishable items to load into the box truck for delivery and use within our area. Check below for a full list of items needed to assist those across western North Carolina.
