I guess that could be said about lots of players on lots of teams. But in this case, I know he was highly touted but I am OK with how many talented guys we have in that WR rotation. The thing at WCU (at least on offense) is it really doesn't matter if you are listed as a skill-position starter anywhere other than QB. We rotate so many guys they all get plenty of playing time.
A guy lots of people are now talking about is Jalynn Williams. I asked repeatedly last season (especialy with some of our short-yardage and woes down inside the 5) if anybody knew why he wasn't playing. He was a productive back in this offense with limited opportunities 2 seasons ago. Sounds like he is still not at 100%, but is good enough to get some playing time. So it is great to see him get back on the field, and it is especially nice to see a 210+ pound guy in our backfield from time to time.

Quote from Furman's head coach in the video:
TALENT - We have some, but Furman will never will able to out-talent schools like UT-C and WCU. That's nothing new, have been dealing with it for a long time.

What do you make of that statement?

Honestly - I think it is true. On pure, raw talent Western has some of the most athletic, fast, talented guys in the league. Purely on talent, many guys at Western (particularly at skill positions) would be the starter at many of the other SOCON schools. That obviously doesn't mean we have the best team, as it takes more than talent to win games and especially championships. But overall I'd say UTC, Western, and now maybe ETSU have talent-laden rosters.

I think Fleming will leave after this year Yeah, I've learned those recruiting ⭐⭐⭐ stars aren't worth a damn once you get into the 2 and 3 stars. I have no knowledge of the Fleming situation. Wonder if it's a poor work ethic?

Having Jalynn Williams back at full strength is going to be huge for us. We MUST increase our yards per carry heading into the games against Mercer UTC and ETSU. Also, our defense is not good enough for us to win games with 30 points. Our offense needs to score into the upper 30s if we want any shot at winning this conference.

Looking at Furman's board and their 2-deep, lots of injuries and lots of young 'uns on the field for Furple. That being said, a couple of their posts reminded me that 1) with what we thought was one of the best WCU teams in a long time last year they came into Cullowhee and whipped us and 2) they have absolutely destroyed us running the football since Bell has been here as our head coach.
Rushing yards / points allowed 2023 - 333 / 27 (Loss) 2022 - 425 / 47 (Loss) 2021 - 316 / 42 (Win)
On average the last 3 years we gave up well over 350 yards rushing and nearly 39 points per game.
Now the Paladins don't have Roberto who delivered a whole lot of those yards, and they have a very young QB vs the veteran Huff. And while we give up a lot of yards I do think our defense is better particularly with runs between the tackles. But we also scored 40 or more in 2 of those 3 games, and we have only scored 35 once this season.
I keep expecting the offense to have a break-out game. We are looking better on that side of the ball but still have not shown a ton of explosion outside the Montana game. I hope this is the week we are able to take advantage of another team being really young for a change (seems like it is normally us) and that we can avoid giving up so many back-breaking blown assignments or 3rd down conversions.
As I said on their board, I will not be surprised if the first team that gets to 24 wins the game. Coach Bell was absolutely correct on the coaches show that this Catamount team has to get more of a killer instinct and if they have a chance to score, or get off the field, or change the game we need some guys to step up with that different mentatlity.

We need for our players to maintain their lanes, tackle, and not overplay which puts them out of position - hence big plays!
