As in every year, Western can't expect a bid unless we are at minimum 6-2 in the SOCON. So probably not worth worrying about until we get through these next 3 games minimum. Playing on the road at Furman and Mercer, then UTC at home, followed by ETSU at their place is going to be more than a stiff test. I'd argue we probably have to be 3-1 in those 4. Ouch.
It would be interesting to see what he predicts the final records of these teams are? I'd think he would have to be saying WCU, ETSU, and UTC all get to 8 wins, and that seems tough for both us (means we would have to be a miraculous 7-1 in conference) and the Bucs to get there given what is left on the schedule. ETSU already lost to UTC, and still have Mercer and us to play.
I am going to guess we might sneak 3 in - that 3rd spot right now would be between us and ETSU, but there is a whole lot of football left. If we lose 2 more games I expect the Campbell game to haunt us. Hard to see how we would get 4 as he is predicting.
The one thing I really like about some of the changes (assuming you get at least 3 teams in) make it look like they won't necessarily line SOCON teams up against each other. In this wild hypothetical, if SOCON teams win their first 3 games only ETSU and Mercer would face off - giving us an automatic team into the quarters and 2 others with a chance. That is why it is so important for leagues to get their teams ranked so they can get 3 or more into the dance.
