Conrad Frady...The MAN...The MYTH...the LEGEND.
Until recently, I mowed and weedeated the Cullowhee Methodist Church cemetery where Coonie, Ben David, Jimmy B, Hagg and Shag, Uncle Boyd are all buried. Every time I got to their tombstone, I would have to stop, laugh and remember the many stories about Cullowhee's "famous" family.

Wasn't it Coonie ( or maybe Jimmy) who fired up a chainsaw in the old Townhouse cafe one day? Man, I haven't heard those names in a long time.

This winter wonderland photo features the Joyner Building! The Joyner Building served as a combination classroom and administration facility. Constructed in 1913, it was the focus of the Cullowhee Normal and Industrial School campus for decades. Until 1952, it housed the school’s library.  |
