Cullowhee, N.C. - Randy Eaton, former senior associate director of athletics at the University of Maryland, is the new director of athletics at Western Carolina University. Western Carolina Chancellor David O. Belcher announced today (Wednesday, Dec. 14) the selection of Eaton, who brings more than 20 years of athletics administration experience to the post. Eaton's appointment, effective Dec. 14, follows a national search conducted by a 14-member committee working with the assistance of Todd Turner of Collegiate Sports Associates, a North Carolina-based executive search consulting firm. www.catamountsports.com/genrel/121411aab.html

Here's hoping this was the right choice. I hope this brings in a new era in Catamount athletics.

If he gets the right hire for football, and his guy turns the program around, it will make his career. Eaton will not retire in Cullowhee.

Now we can get down to business. Let's hire a great football coach. Just hope Eaton can produce, he has my support.

I just hope he's taking the time to make the right hire. There's a lot riding on this, both for hime and the university.
