Wichita State selects John Bardo as university president The Kansas Board of Regents on Friday announced that Bardo, 63, retired chancellor of Western Carolina University, will succeed Beggs as president starting July 1. Bardo knows Wichita nearly as well as anybody living here. So does his wife, Deborah, who graduated from West High School in 1971 and still has family in the area. Bardo met her in Neff Hall, during those years, 1973 to 1983, when he taught sociology at WSU. They lived here then; they have visited Wichita frequently since then. Good! That means he won't be coming back to WCU to be a professor as were his original plans. Thanks for everything Johnny, but it's best we both move on. GO CATS!

The question now is, did he retire or did someone high tell him to go and saying he is retire was easier to do(like Wagner resigned/Fired). I think I have a good idea that happen behind close doors.

I think his selection shows how widely respected Bardo is in academic circles, not athletic circles, but academic circles. There is no doubt he remained at WCU too long (16 years).

Good riddance.... Does this still mean hes getting money from the UNC system for that "research project" that wouldve made him a better prof at WCU when they re-hired him back on???

Really? Seriously? Are the folks critical of Dr. Bardo daft? I realize Dr. Bardo was not exactly the best friend of Catamount athletics. However, you cannot deny the tremendous impact he had on our school. Dr. Bardo is directly responsible for the growth in enrollment and the renaissance of our campus. For goodness sake, WCU has a waiting list for applicant acceptance (3 years in a row). Those critical of Dr. Bardo should crawl out from under your rock and give credit where it is due.

Since this is a sports forum, and as you say "Dr. Bardo was not exactly the best friend of Catamount athletics" - a good bit of negative feelings would be expected. In everything except athletics, I agree, he was an outstanding chancellor.
